The Role:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 BMS Team Manager at Southwest Pathology Services.
We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Biomedical Scientist Team Manager to operate within the Virology and Molecular section of our Infection Sciences Department (We will also consider Biomedical Scientist looking to progress into Team Manager role). This role will provide expert leadership and management for the technical delivery and advancement of the Virology & Molecular service including SYNLAB Molecular Unit.
Qualifications and experience required:
Essential:
- HCPC State Registration as a Biomedical Scientist, in Microbiology, Virology or Molecular with evidence of Continued Professional Development
- MSc/Specialist diploma in Virology
- High level working knowledge of biomedical techniques and practices.
- Expert interpretive and diagnostic skills.
- Knowledge of National guidelines and protocols relating to Virology and Molecular.
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Leadership qualities
Desirable:
- IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma if applicable or an additional Masters level qualification
- ILM Level 3 Management Qualification or commitment to work towards.
- Experience of working with track-based automation within Blood Sciences, DS2 immunoanalyser, Biomerieux Vidas, Roche e-411, Hologic Panther, Kingfisher Flex extraction robot and Quant-studio 5 RT-PCR

Since late 2021 when COVID testing pre-travel was no longer required, this unit has moved into sexual health testing, supporting a number of NHS commissioned and private contracts providing on-line access to sexual health.
