Salary: Up to £22,000 per annum

The Role:

We are looking for a bright and dynamic person to join our ten-person Legal Cashier Department as a Trainee Legal Cashier. Full in-house training will be provided to give the successful candidate a solid foundation in this interesting and varied area of accounting. Progression within the department is guaranteed for hard working and talented individuals.

The ideal candidate will be someone looking to embark upon, or progress their accountancy career within a busy, high-volume Finance Department and is interested in learning about accounting for client money in a law firm environment. Applicants must be confident with IT and have good numeracy and written English skills.

Main responsibilities:

  • Documenting and processing incoming BACS & cheques
  • Processing outgoing BACS and cheque payments, including export to online banking
  • Processing case-related expenses onto client ledgers
  • Running daily reports for inter-account transfers
  • Checking and processing bills
  • Dealing with electronic filing
  • Assisting file handling staff with accounting queries
  • Other duties as may be required by the firm

Person Specification:

Required Qualifications/Training:

  • GCSE Maths and English Grade 5 / C or above (or international equivalent)

Desired Qualifications/Training:

  • Studying towards, or wishing to commence an AAT, ILFM or other accounting qualification would be desirable, with the firm willing to contribute towards course fees

Required Attributes

  • Good numeracy and written English skills
  • Strong IT skills, including experience of MS Excel and Outlook
  • Confidence and ability to communicate at senior levels
  • Strong sense of responsibility
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Willing and able attitude

Desired Attributes

  • Experience of working in a high volume, computerised accounting environment
  • Understanding of double-entry bookkeeping
