The Role:
We have a fantastic and rare opportunity for a Trainee Estimator to work within the Commercial department. Reporting to the Estimator, the Trainee Estimator will support cost estimate activities for newly tendered work. You will be supported with on-the-job training and formal training required for the job to enable you to prepare estimates independently from a variety of tender information, including project scope documents, drawings and site information, utilising the company cost base and current market prices.
The Person:
Most importantly we are looking for an enthusiastic and self-driven individual who is keen to learn and willing to be flexible to work within our small and experienced Commercial team.
Hours of Work:
You will be required to work 40 hours from 8.00am to 5pm (Monday to Friday) though the nature of the role requires flexibility to work additional hours in order to meet the needs of the business.
High Level Responsibilities:
As a trainee, you will work towards independently carry out the following responsibilities:
- Manage all costs, from the initial Estimate to the Outturn final account position.
- Work within the Commercial Team to minimise the costs of a project and enhance profitability.
- Preparation and completion of Contract Variations in accordance with contract terms and conditions
- Working alongside the Business Development Manager to produce first principle estimates and prepare tenders
- Tender site meeting to aid in the preparation of Estimates
- Assisting in the preparation of PPQ documentation
- Weekly preparation of internal sales
- Update of internal and external systems and reports
- Contract and commercial administration
- Preparation and submission of project final accounts
- Carry out site visits to monitor progress and obtain details of any site variations
- Process and project control to deliver the contract
- Work collaboratively across work streams within the company
- Build and develop relationships with companies and project team members
- Liaising with clients and attend site and client office based meetings when required
- Produce any ad-hoc management reports as required
Skills and Qualifications
- Good standard of education with excellent numerical skills
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft office suite particularly Excel
- Excellent organizational skills
- Used to working to strict deadlines
- You will also require a full UK driving licence
