Job Title: Trades Specialist with specialism in carpentry/mechanics/plumbing

Coventry College was formed in August 2017 as the sole General Further Education provider in the city, delivering vocational, technical and professional education and training to learners of all ages, from Entry Level to Higher Education.
The role
Coventry College strives to ensure a welcoming, efficient and safe environment for all learners, staff and visitors across the campus. To support in achieving this, the College is looking to add to its Estates team with highly skilled and motivated trades specialists in a variety of specialisms: carpentry/mechanics/plumbing.
Main Responsibilities include
- To participate in the provision of an Estates service primarily undertaking day-to-day repairs, planned maintenance, installation and minor improvements.
- Carry out PPM work in accordance with Estates schedules and accepted good working practices in order to ensure safe and reliable maintenance services.
- Where appropriate, carry out fault diagnosis and repairs to the colleges installations and plant, including HVAC, and hot and cold-water systems so as to maintain a safe and reliable service.
- To carry out any necessary mechanical engineering tests or measurements, in compliance with accepted standards, good industry practice and the Estates Department schedule of inspection.
- To assist in key holder duties i.e. be a point of contact out of hours, via the remote monitoring contractor in the event of alarm activation.
- Occasional out of hours and weekend work if required.
- Work with line manager to identify training needs, and actively seek out relevant training and development opportunities.
- Participate in the College’s appraisal process
- Comply with all College policies and procedures
- Maintain best practice in relation to health and safety, and report any health and safety concerns to the appropriate manager
Ideal Candidate
As a skilled Trades Specialist, holding a recognised qualification in your area of expertise, and with a minimum of 3 years relevant maintenance experience working in a similar role, you should be able to demonstrate:
- Previous experience of undertaking and completing maintenance tasks including day-to-day repairs, fault diagnosis, providing planned maintenance, installation and minor improvements to the building fabric to a high standard in your field of expertise
- Experience of delivering consistently high levels of customer service
- Knowledge and experience in the application of Health & Safety procedures whilst carrying out your duties to ensure compliance, good industry-standard practice and to meet the Estates’ Department schedule of inspection.
