Job Title: Touring Exhibitions Manager

Location: Salford

Salary: £28,000 – £30,000 per annum, Dependant on Experience

Job Type: Full time, 37.5 hours p/w (2 year Fixed Term Contract)

We are looking for a Touring Exhibitions Manager who will confidently lead on the management and delivery of The Lowry’s new programme of touring exhibitions and loans of signature LS Lowry works. The successful candidate requires a positive and pro-active approach to creating and maintaining strong relationships with touring venues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Curator (Contemporary) and the Curator (LS Lowry Collection), as well as the Access and Interpretation Manager, the Learning & Engagement Team and the in-house Design Team in the creative development of exhibitions and signature loans identified for touring.
  • Collaborate with the Galleries and Marketing teams to develop touring marketing packages for each touring exhibition.
  • Research potential touring venues and manage subsequent venue liaison, supporting the Director of Visual Arts in handling the negotiation and agreements with tour venues ensuring all contractual requirements are met by all parties.
  • Alongside colleagues from across The Lowry, actively explore the creative and commercial potential for the LS Lowry Collection to find expression as a digital immersive experience.
  • Present touring exhibitions marketing packages to possible venues and organisations, such as the Touring Exhibitions Group and at the Museums Association Conference.
  • Help ensure exhibition materials are adapted for tour, creating tour packages to include object, condition reports, packing and crate lists; exhibition design and floor plans; graphic and text packages, photographs and any other elements relevant to the exhibition.
  • Track all changes including new loans and additions or loans returned to lenders during the tour.
  • Maintain accurate records of costs, keeping within set expenditure budget.
  • Help supervise packing and transport for outgoing and incoming exhibitions dealing with fine art shippers, transport companies and customs.
  • Ensure the relevant insurance is in place for touring exhibits.
  • Travel to touring venues with the exhibition team to oversee condition reporting, installation and de-installation of exhibition objects as required.
  • Collaborate with Press and Marketing teams to ensure touring exhibitions are well communicated and marketed to audiences and the sector.
  • Support The Lowry’s own in-house installations and de-installations if required.
  • Help ensure touring exhibitions make active contributions to The Lowry’s and
  • Ensure that you adhere to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and The Lowry’s Data Principles and Data Code of Conduct.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Excellent project management, administrative and organisational skills.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • A keen knowledge of modern and contemporary visual arts.
  • An understanding of personal and collective responsibility with regard to Security and Health & Safety regulations and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Interactive media, particularly digital technology.
  • Understanding of / commitment to equality, inclusion and diversity.
  • Experience of curating contemporary exhibitions.
  • Experience of setting, monitoring and controlling project budgets.
  • Well connected in artist, studio and gallery networks nationally.
  • A flexible and adaptable approach to working hours that will include some evening and weekend work.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Experience of touring contemporary exhibitions.
  • Experience of working with museum collections.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
