Job Title: Technical Supervisor (Chemistry Lab)

Salary: £30,000- £35,000 (DOE)

ACS offer independent professional materials testing and consultancy services generally aimed at the Construction and Environmental sectors. Established in 2006, ACS Environmental took its place within the industry to analyse a wide range of chemical elements typically founds in environmental and construction samples. Working in conjunction with ACS Testing and ACS Geo-Environmental Consultancy, our ACS Environmental laboratory has established state of the art preparation, chemical and analytical sections.
Our purpose-built analytical laboratory enables us to provide a comprehensive range of analytical services on a variety of materials including natural and recycled aggregates, soils, bituminous materials, and water and leachate samples.
We offer an efficient and reliable contamination and WAC testing using various test procedures specified by the Environment Agency.
The Role:
Due to a period of extensive growth, including a £1M investment in instrumentation & building, a fantastic opportunity has arisen for a new technical supervisor to support our successful UKAS and MCERTS accredited Environmental laboratory.
The ideal candidate will provide a positive attitude and solutions mindset to the company. They will act as a motivator and promote staff wellbeing. They will be a creative problem solver to enable the team to work at their best.
Key Responsibilities:
- Liaise with Environmental Manager on laboratory requirements.
- Liaise with the Quality department on UKAS, method development & validation.
- Ensure all work is delivered within the expected turnaround times and to the highest standard.
- Provide hands-on technical support to the Senior Analysts and analytical chemist.
- Provide technical and business expertise to the Analytical team.
What we are looking for?
- Flexible working – occasional Saturday morning and overtime.
- Bachelor’s (preferred).
- UKAS Accredited Laboratory: 5 years (required).
- Minimum of five years’ experience in a UKAS accredited laboratory.
- Hold a degree in Chemistry or a closely related science, or have relevant laboratory experience.
- Good working knowledge of chromatography disciplines and in particular of IC, GC, GC-MS, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, GCxGC, Robotic systems, DFA & SFA.
- Good knowledge of various instrument software packages.
- Significant method development and method validation experience.
- Excellent procurement skills with regards chemicals.
- Experience writing RAMS and COSHH reports.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Experience working to KPIs.
