National Energy Action (NEA) is the national charity which works to eradicate fuel poverty and campaigns for greater investment in energy efficiency to help those who are poor or vulnerable to be able to stay affordably warm. NEA works in partnership with central and local government, fuel utilities, housing providers, consumer groups and voluntary organisations to promote energy efficiency with the aim of bringing social, environmental, housing and employment benefits to communities. NEA currently employs 86 staff at our national headquarters in Newcastle upon Tyne and in regional offices across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The Role:

NEA is looking to recruit for a Technical Evaluation Co-ordinator to join our friendly, committed and hardworking team.

The post holder will report to NEA’s Innovation and Technical Evaluation Manager. We are looking for a candidate who would ideally be based in NEA’s Head Office, Newcastle but consideration will be given to candidates outside of the North-East who are willing to travel to the North East and elsewhere to participate in field work and project delivery.

NEA’s Innovation and Technical Evaluation team are responsible for leading on NEA’s socio-technical field trials to better understand how innovation and technologies can be used to enhance outcomes for fuel poor customers who may be reliant on a low income and/or living in a vulnerable situation.

A large part of the role will be to deliver comprehensive social and technical monitoring and data analysis relating to domestic properties. Results help us to understand the impact of energy efficiency interventions on a client’s comfort and affordability and any impact on the thermal efficiency of the property alongside energy costs and comfort. The successful post holder will also have responsibility for delivering tailored technical energy advice to householders, which may include communicating complex information about energy, heating systems and their controls in an accessible way.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate understanding or experience of energy efficiency, heating and insulation technologies and their application in domestic settings.

  • The salary range is £28,791 to £33,454 (Scale SO1-SO2, Points 23-28).
  • NEA offer a money-purchase, non-contributory pension scheme. 11½% of basic salary will be paid by NEA into the pension scheme. NEA also offers death-in-service cover to state retirement age and enhanced sick pay.   • 25 days, plus 3 additional days in the Christmas/New year period, plus all public holidays per annum.
