The Role
This is a customer facing role that requires excellent communication skills and a good technical knowledge and understanding to implement a flexible database application, within a project, for a client organisation. Following a sale to a new customer the candidate will be responsible for confirming the requirements of the client and implementing all aspects of the solution to create a happy customer and to maintain that relationship over time.
Tasks include:
- Data migration from CSV and XML and tagged files
- Training users in the application software
- Managing all project communications
- Writing reports using SQL Server Reporting Services
- Set up of new database instances in SQL Server; controlling the server environment; using tools and scripts to deploy the application; apply HTML5 and CSS
Candidate Essentials:
Be in the Derby area, or willing to relocate
- Strong HTML & CSS
- Experience in developing Microsoft SQL scripts
- Advanced Excel skills
- Professional written and verbal communication skills in English
- Strong technical, analytical skills and time-management skills with the ability to multi-task;
- Good level of familiarity with various data formats, CSV, XML etc.

A large part of the role is building a strong client relationship based on technical competence and trust in the advice and support given. This is achieved by developing in depth knowledge and understanding of the company’s application software and the business environment into which it is used and having the necessary experience of Microsoft database applications and web technologies.
The application software is designed for corporate libraries, archives, records and knowledge services.
Consulting and configuration advice on the most suitable set up of the database for client’s data and workflows in the application. This includes ensuring that data that is migrated from their legacy system(s) is accurately loaded and is in good consistent order, so that it can be searched and presented to end users in the best possible way.
The role calls for someone who can work within a team but be responsible for setting their own work plans and being responsible for meeting client expectations. There is minimal day to day supervision of the individual and the company is therefore looking for someone with a proactive approach, a self-starter who is used to solving problems and finding solutions.
The software is developed by a team of Microsoft Software Engineers and is continuously updated and improved to meet client needs. The application is built in Microsoft SQL Server and is fully web browser based. You will not be expected to program but you will be required to create scripts to extract and manipulate data within a SQL database.
The clients expect someone who is friendly and competent, calm when presented with technical problems and is ready and knowledgeable to engage and assist them promptly in the support of the application.
