Job Title: Waking Night Support Worker

This Association, an established provider of support services for people with learning disabilities, have been working in the North East since 1990. Their mission statement, which was designed by the people they support, their families and their own staff, guides everything they do.
They believe that everyone should have their choice when it comes to getting the support they need and as such they provide a specifically tailored service to every individual, working to a support plan chosen by them.
The Role:
The Waking Night Support Worker post is an opportunity to provide support in a person-centred way, supporting community connections, creating employment opportunities and helping people to establish a network of relationships – both taking the initiative and working closely colleagues with a “can do” approach in line with the Organisation’s values.
The Support Worker also provides personal assistance to people who require it; this includes personal care e.g. practical help to wash, bathe, and cook meals. You will meet the needs of individuals throughout the night. This position is an opportunity to work creatively with people and the organisation emphasises a team approach to work.

Support
- To provide support to a person with learning disabilities by implementing their individual support plan
- To deliver all support in a person-centred way, working with the person you support to realise their goals and ambitions
- To respond positively to changing needs
- To manage risk effectively
- To maintain accurate records as required
- Waking nights to support people in their home throughout the night, ensuring their health and safety is maintained (as well as all the specific responsibilities above where applicable).
Personal Assistance
- To provide assistance to a person with learning disabilities to care for themselves, and their home
- To perform personal care tasks for a person with learning disabilities with their consent when they require such assistance
- To prompt self-management or assist a person with learning disabilities to take their medication
Key Requirements:
- Experience in planning and managing your own workload
- Find out about any specific physical social, emotional or cultural needs of the person you support and be able to meet them
- Enable the person you support to make choices and decisions with support from advocates if necessary
- Understand and challenge prejudice, discrimination and oppression
- Communicate effectively with people with learning disabilities and within the staff team
- Promote the protection of people with learning disability from abuse and neglect
- Develop own skills and understanding through training and other opportunities
- Understand the Organisation and its roles and responsibilities
- Flexibility and the ability to be able to respond to unexpected priorities
- Ability to multi-task and work through challenges seeking appropriate support when necessary
