Job Title: Homeless Prevention Support Officer
Location: Harrogate
Salary: £24,313 – £26,317 per annum
Job type: Full Time, 12 Months Fixed Term

The Role:
You will have experience of housing advice, support work, an understanding of private and public sector housing law and the welfare benefits framework. You should have an appreciation of the circumstances that cause homelessness and be able to deal with members of the public sympathetically.
If you would like to be part of a small team that identifies, and implements solutions for the difficulties faced by homeless households, they would love to hear from you. Their vibrant Homeless Support Team provides a service aimed at preventing homelessness and preserving tenancies.
Key Responsibilities (but are not limited to):
- Providing assistance to customers accessing new tenancies
- Identify barriers to onward accommodation (debt, arrears, employment, ASB)
- Provide practical support to vulnerable new tenants to help them to become established in their tenancy and in the local community
- Make referrals to other agencies for life-skills and employment training, children safeguarding and support, mental health support and drug and alcohol issues
- Working closely with the Housing Options Team with regards to customers Personalised Housing Plans Compose additional detailed support plans with the customer, liaising with them in order to achieve agreed actions
- Compose detailed support plans for the Customer working alongside them in order to achieve agreed actions
- Work with external agencies, such as DWP, North Yorkshire Horizons, Health service including mental health, NYLAF, Private Landlords and Social Housing Providers
- To support Health and well-being, financial and social inclusion and tenancy sustainment
Key Requirements:
- Educated to GCSE level standard or equivalent
- A full and clean driving licence
- Good standard of numeracy, literacy and computer literacy
- Previous experience of homelessness prevention/support work
- Previous experience of working with other agencies
- Previous experience of working with vulnerable customers
- Previous knowledge of assisting customers to access universal benefits
- Customer care related training
- Appreciation of allocations, nominations and void control procedures
