Job Outline & Purpose
- To work individually with students and apprentices from across all Juniper training centres, sports and apprenticeship sites, using face-to-face and remote methods (Microsoft Teams)
- Work with learners, helping them to manage a range of difficulties, including personal, emotional and psychological, as well as health issues, substance misuse and relationship problems
- Develop good working relationships with staff from across the company network, ensuring that there is an appreciation of the services being offered to learners. This will include highlighting how the counselling service can be beneficial for learners
- Be able to develop a collaborative understanding of a learner’s difficulties, as well as their strengths and resources, to enable the identification of appropriate interventions
- To understand how and when to refer learners on to other services
- To use knowledge of local and national safeguarding legislation to ensure that learners are appropriately supported. Working with the company safeguarding team to ensure that all safeguarding concerns are promptly dealt with, in-line with guidance
Delivery
- Deliver 1-1 Counselling sessions and small group sessions to support learners’ wellbeing and mental health needs
- Ensure that learners accessing the service have realistic expectations of what the counselling service offers
- Work with staff to guide and inform them about characteristics of learners who may benefit from the counselling service
- To ensure that colleagues are kept informed of when learners are scheduled to have a session, so that appropriate arrangements can be organised within centre, or a workplace
- Effective communication across the company on Safeguarding/Prevent issues
Quality
- To maintain and update all learner case notes and records in an efficient manner to guarantee that all relevant details are captured. At all times adhering to working practices that are secure
- Maintain an effective diary system that allows for efficient support of all learners, maintaining confidentiality
- To have an in-depth understanding of Government legislation on Safeguarding and Prevent including ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ and ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children’
- Keeping abreast of developments and understanding the latest information on data protection, confidentiality and other legal issues that impact on the protection of learners, including attending appropriate training, as required
Training & Development
- Deliver staff awareness and training sessions on topics relating to wellbeing, mental health and the benefits of counselling
- Contribute towards the development of schemes of work that relate to support, wellbeing and pastoral care.
