This is an exciting and rare opportunity to join the Huddersfield BID (Business Improvement District) at the very start of its journey. On 12th July the decision was taken by the businesses in Huddersfield in favour of plans to set up a business improvement district (BID), securing £2 million to be spent on improving the Town over a five year period.
The BID is now looking to recruit 2 Street Ambassadors. This customer and public facing role is critical in the delivery of the Business Plan; working closely with Levy Payers, Kirklees Council, West Yorkshire Police and other influential organisations within the Town to keep the area safe, attractive and a great place to be.
This new exciting team will be a key element in creating a welcoming and safe town for everyone. Successful candidates will need to demonstrate their passion and knowledge of the area and be a positive advocate of all things Huddersfield. Whether this be directing visitors, assisting in the delivery of events or sharing facts about their local history with tourists, to name but a few. You will be working closely with other promotional organisations and will strive to make your presence reflect positively on the Town.
Candidates will require a hands-on approach and be willing to get involved in a range of projects, including: identifying Anti-Social Behaviour, reporting/reacting to a street cleansing issue or using initiative to propose future improvements to the Town.
Their Street Ambassadors will be required to work 5 days a week, usually Tuesday to Saturday between the hours of 7:30am – 6pm, although flexibility in hours to meet the needs of the Town is essential. The role will involve some evening work and some Sundays/ Bank Holidays agreed in advance to support project & event delivery.
This role will suit those who enjoy being outdoors and who like to be physically active, it is likely that the street ambassadors will clock up several miles in an average day, moving in and around the Town.
Key Responsibilities:
- Performing regular business visits, dealing with enquiries as they arise or referring these onto the relevant person/organisation.
- Assistance in the identification and reduction of business crime and anti-social behaviour improving the perception of the town centre as a safe place in which to be.
- A daily, uniformed presence in and on the outskirts of the town which fall into the Business Improvement District.
- Distribution of literature on behalf of the BID as required.
- Appropriate use of tools and equipment, including communication radios.
- Strict attention to personal responsibilities in the areas of risk management and health, safety and welfare, both in terms of self and others

- Able to actively project manage and monitor the success of any pilot schemes
- Able to juggle numerous initiatives and projects concurrently
- Able to inspire confidence and identify and address issues and concerns as and when they arise
- An outgoing, friendly and approachable personality
- A positive, can-do attitude and genuine desire to improve the experience of those visiting, working in and utilising the facilities in the Town
- Able to confidently liaise with the BID Board and project stakeholders
- Experience of working across multiple agencies / stakeholders
- Excellent knowledge of Huddersfield Town
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills
- Resilient and able to solve problems
- Flexible, innovative and able to respond positively to changing
