About the Role:
Due to our continued growth and expansion plans we’re recruiting for a Straightener to work alongside our existing teams at our fully equipped site with melting, rolling, heat treatment, grinding, straightening, cutting and testing capabilities. This is an exciting opportunity to join one of Sheffield’s dynamic and long-standing companies – a key fixture in the Sheffield Steel industry!

Main Responsibilities:
The main responsibilities expected from this role are:
General:
- Maintain good levels of timekeeping and productivity.
- Maintain good levels of housekeeping throughout the works, and in particular, your own area of operation.
- Be responsible for your machines/equipment. Check any appropriate guards and safety devices are in place before operation; operate equipment in line with how you have been instructed; control & adjust machine settings; test operation of machines periodically; fix any issues that might occur; maintain machines and equipment in line with manuals/instruction; ensure machines are regularly cleaned down.
- Safely use Overhead Cranes and Fork Lift trucks to move material around the works.
- Store material correctly & safely when not in use.
- Follow reasonable instructions given by your managers.
- Attend any training that you have been identified as requiring.
- Act responsibly and safely at all times.
Key Tasks:
Bar Straightening: Assist with the 3 types of bar straightening we have (Bump, Stretch & Reeler), learn how to set up the machines, the use of different plates and weights to achieve desired results. Hot & Cold straightening.
When the above processes are quiet, you will be expected to assist in the following areas:
Booking-in & Dispatch of goods: Offloading/Loading lorries, weighing materials, correctly identifying & labelling, measuring activities (micrometres/verniers/tapes), completing paperwork, storing materials.
Sawing: Loading of material, precise measurement, interpreting orders, operating automatic Kasto & Danobat band saws, finishing of edges, awareness and management of metalworking fluids/coolants.
Any other task as required by your manager.
About you:
Essential Skill Requirements:
- Experience in working in a steelworks/metal manufacturing.
- Skilled in using Verniers and/or micrometres.
- Keen, motivated and reliable.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Fully compliant to Health & Safety requirements.
- FLT License (refresher training can be provided).
- Overhead Crane certified (refresher training can be provided)
