The Role:
Working closely with all departments of the Mulberry Bush School to further develop the provision of Speech and Language Therapy you will be responsible for:
– Providing assessment of children’s communication needs, write reports, carry out therapy and offer training and consultation for MBS staff across departments.
– Contributing to the MDT thinking around a child’s needs and ensure that all staff are supporting children’s communication across the school.
– Ensuring that information the school provides for the children is accessible.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provide comprehensive speech and language services to pupils.
- Become familiar with the development, medical and educational histories as well as the EHCP needs of pupils.
- Devise and implement individual therapy programmes as required.
- Provide practical advice to support classroom staff in facilitating the language development of children.
- Provide individual and group training for staff where appropriate.
- Engage in activities of the school as a therapeutic community.
- Promote the school’s ethos within children’s networks (professional and family).
- Maintain records according to RCSLT standards and departmental policy.
- Contribute on evaluation of prospective pupils by advising on their speech, language and communication needs.
- Ensure good practise at all times in relation to anti-discriminator practise and the rights of individuals to personal beliefs, identify and choice.
- To carry out any other duties relevant to the post as required by the Head of Therapies and Networks Team.
Essential & Desirable Skills:
- Speech & Language Therapy degree or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working with children.
- Member of the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists
- Hold relevant qualifications and current registration with the ability to work within the parameters of the professional code of conduct.
- Experience working with children with behaviour difficulties (desirable).
- Interest in learning about psychodynamic theory (desirable).
- Understanding of communication needs associated with difficulties (desirable).
