Job Title: Software Engineer / Developer
Location: Manchester
Salary: £40,000 per annum dependent on experience.
Job type: 6-month FTC.
The Role:

EDM design, manufacture and install specialist mechanical and electrical applications to a diverse client base. Based in Manchester we are currently recruiting for an software engineer / developer to join our developing software team on a 6 month fixed term basis. The role of software engineer / developer will be responsible developing software primarily for a variety of rail projects. This includes working on EDM’s rail simulation engine and associated applications and adapting or extending the functionality of existing systems to meet the current requirements and standardising for future projects.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Undertake the conceptual development of the software and promote ideas within the bounds of the specification.
- Develop software in accordance with the agreed framework and modules of the requirement.
- Document all stages of development using appropriate tools to ensure that the software can be reviewed and modified with a 3rd Party.
- Test software modules against the functional specifications and document results and non compliance.
- Demonstrate verification and compliance following modifications and software debugging processes.
- Maintain all software files in good order and ensure the data is securely backed up along with all associated documentation.
Key Requirements
- A willingness and ability to adapt to diverse technologies and develop new skills as required is essential, due to the broad nature of the training and simulation field.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- 5+ years experience with C# and C++ is essential.
- Experience with Windows PCs.
- An understanding of rail signaling principles would be desirable.
- An appreciation of general engineering principles and practices would be advantageous.
- Honours in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Computing or similar level of qualification would be desirable.
