The Council are currently recruiting for Social Worker across the borough to reach full permanent staffing capacity. This advertisement is for posts in the Family Safeguarding Service, Corporate Parenting (Children in Care Service) and the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub. The Role:
These are exciting times for the area’s Children’s Services; they are committed to achieving the best outcomes for children and families, and doing this through creating the conditions where great social work practice can flourish. They want you to join them on this journey, and are recruiting to key posts across their social work teams; including posts for both experienced social workers and newly qualified workers looking to enter into the Assessment and Support Year in Employment (ASYE).
In Walsall they’ve embarked on a transformation journey, with a range of initiatives to help improve practice and conditions for staff based upon their vision for restorative practice and being a restorative organisation.
- They’re introducing the Family Safeguarding model with support from the ‘Strengthening Families, Protecting Children Programme’ and investment from the Department for Education. This involves creating Family Safeguarding Teams that are multi-agency and include workers from adult mental health, drug and alcohol and domestic abuse services and the use of tailored parenting support and programmes.
- They have a strong focus on permanence for all children, with a full review of support for children in care and care leavers so that they have aspirations and offer the right help for each child and young person.
- All staff receive training in Restorative Practice, Motivational Interviewing, and key methods and tools to support relationship-based social work.
- Their transformation programme encompasses all Children’s Social Care, Education, Early Help and partner agencies to make sure that the right children and young people receive the right help at the right time.
- Their social work teams have adapted to a locality model of working to be able to build stronger links with partners and communities.
- They’ve created a bespoke adolescent service and are launching a Family Drug and Alcohol Court in partnership with Wolverhampton and Dudley.
- They are working with the What Works Centre to become an evidence-minded organisation that focuses on children’s and young people’s outcomes.
- They’re committed to a staff wellbeing programme to recognise and support staff, acknowledging that to keep children safe and support families, social workers need to feel safe and supported
- A programme of activity is being undertaken across 2020 to reduce bureaucracy, improve recording and ICT systems, and prioritise time with children and families
