Job Title: Site Assistant
Location: Oaklands Catholic School and Sixth Form College, Waterlooville, Hampshire
Salary: C1 to C5 £21,190 to £22,215.00 (+ Pending NJC Pay Award)
Job Type: Permanent Full -Time (52 weeks)
- 37 hour week to cover rotational working pattern of Early or Day working times. Mon – Thu 6.15 -14.15 (Early), 08.15 -16.15 (Day) Fri 06.15 -13.45 (Early), 8.15 -3.45 (Day) 30 Minutes unpaid break per day
Oaklands is a Catholic Academy taking in boys and girls from 11 -18, which has been established by the Diocese of Portsmouth for the education of Catholic children who live within the designated parish catchment area allocated to the school. In addition, Oaklands also takes in a number of children from other Christian denominations whose parents have specifically requested a Catholic education at the school, provided that they satisfy the criteria laid down in the Governors’ Admissions Policy.

The Trustees are seeking to appoint a Site Assistant to join our hardworking, committed and enthusiastic team. We are looking for a confident and organised person with experience of working in a similar role or setting. The successful candidate will play a very important role in providing site services to support the teaching and learning of the school and play an essential part in the smooth running of the School site
Role Requirements:
Full Clean Driving Licence is required
- Ensuring that the school has been locked and security alarms set. Opening and closing areas that are used by hirers.
- Liaising with hirers to ensure facilities meet their needs and ensuring hirers leave facilities in
- appropriate condition.
- Checking areas for security i.e. asking unauthorised visitors to leave the site.
- Oversight of evening cleaning routines liaising with contract supervisor.
- Cleaning of areas as required during the day(spillages etc).
- General site sweeping including picking up litter on grassed areas adjacent to buildings and hard play areas.
- Sweeping and keeping clean of all paths and other areas as required.
- Emptying of litter bins as required. * Porterage, moving furniture, unloading lorries and delivering goods to appropriate areas around the school.
- Clearing blockages in drains and rainwater gutters and pipes.
- Repairs and maintenance, including painting and decorating as required.
- To undertake any necessary action as directed by the Site Supervisor/Assistant School Business Manager/Senior Leadership Team in the event of bad weather or emergency e.g. clearing of snow or ice from paths; wind damage.
- Driving Minibus for refuelling, collection of materials and, on occasion, transporting
- students (training will be given as required).
About you:
The successful candidate will ideally have experience of working within the school environment although this is not essential. Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation, along with good communication skills are an important part of this role. The successful applicant will be highly organised and possess good interpersonal skills.
Essential:
- 3 GCSE ‘s grade A -C including Maths and English or equivalent
- Holds Full UK driving licence
- Practical DIY skills
- Good organisational skills

- Ability to work in a Catholic School, sensitive to the ethos

The following would be desirable:
- Previous experience in a caretaking role
- Previous experience of working in schools
- Previous experience of being key -holder/operating alarm systems
- Qualified First Aider * Understanding of school ‘s role in the Community
- Understanding of the core purpose of Oaklands Catholic School
- Ability to assist students if requested
