Purpose of the Role:
To be responsible for providing influential, pragmatic, and practical health and safety leadership for the AOT site, alongside ensuring that all Company, legal and best compliance levels are met.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Ensures the Company’s Environment, Health and Safety Policy is implemented consistently across the site
- Monitors, evaluates and reviews Environmental, Health and Safety policy and practice, making recommendations and implementing new policies and procedures as required in order to drive safe behaviours and an improvement in safety culture
- Takes leadership in the delivery of the COMAH intervention improvement plan and ensures COMAH compliance is met
- Ensures that all site employees are informed and aware of the CoMAH regulations and have knowledge of the site’s major accident hazards
- Ensures all aspects of the environmental permit are complied with and the ongoing continuous improvement of AOT’s environmental permit system
- Identifies competency needs for employees and develops plans and delivers training as required, ensuring that all employees understand the groups safety principles
- Advises senior management on the implications of current and emerging health, safety, environment and welfare legislation, including evaluating options, making recommendations and generating action plans to ensure compliance across the site
- Leads the sites safety culture by coaching, influencing and mentoring
- Takes leadership in the site’s behavioural safety initiatives
- Ensures that AOT has a robust and representative set of KPI’s that show how the business is performing from a HSE perspective
- Assists managers to implement SHE systems and procedures to meet specific requirements, such as accident reporting and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) in a consistent and effective manner
- Carries out audits to evaluate the effectiveness of SHE systems and procedures, and identify and implement improvements
- Investigates, or where appropriate, assists others to investigate the circumstances and causes of accidents, near misses and non-conformances and takes necessary steps to prevent a recurrence
- Prepares H&S and compliance reports and activity for senior management
- Ensures permits to work controls are robust in all areas
- Ensures that AOT’S risk assessment system is usable and effective in ensuring all work activities are controlled
- Assists and drives forward with any group SHE initiatives

Safety, Health and Environment:
- Carry out all activities in line with the Company’s SH&E rules and guidelines
- Always wear Personal Protection Equipment as required. Take responsibility for your own PPE ensuring appropriate storage and care
- Always work in a manner safe to yourself and others and report any hazards immediately
- Ensure all staff and visitors operate in compliance with Safety Regulations
- Make yourself aware of all Emergency procedures and Responses
The Candidate:
Qualifications/ Knowledge, Experience & Skills:
- Qualified to Degree, Diploma or equivalent level in Occupational Safety and Health
- A NEBOSH qualification or equivalent
- Previous experience of working in a CoMAH environment
- Previous experience in working in an IPPC permitted site and ISO14001 certification
- Previous experience working with management systems, permit to work processes, and ability to demonstrate a full understanding of current legislation.
- Ability to challenge current working practices in a practical and engaging way
The person will be required to develop their professional skills across multiple disciplines in order to carry out a complement of safety and work place organisation related activities, as necessary. Consideration will be given to applicants with demonstrable experience of carrying out a multi discipline role
