Job Title: Server Patching Engineer
Location: London / Client Site

Hours: 37.5 hrs per week, Mon – Fri – client requirements likely change, depending on security requirements/exploits
The Network and Hosting (N&H) clients division’s primary function is to manage all the operational back-end IT Infrastructure. Additionally, this division is also accountable and responsible for most of the Infrastructure Security activities, which includes IT server maintenance scheduling and delivery across all the different Infrastructure services in the areas of Vendor Operating Systems (OS) platforms, networks, storage and hosting (cloud).
The primary objective is to ensure that the following infrastructure platforms and applications remain compliant: –
Infrastructure
- Windows
- Solaris
- Red Hat, number of versions
- Other to be defined
Applications
- Browsers
- Other to be defined
Also manage the scheduling and deployment of all planned and un-planned security patches inc application patches released from Adobe and Oracle/Java etc
Key Duties:
- Take instruction from the patch manager and be confident in applying OS and application patches to large infrastructure platforms and the ability to troubleshoot and report failed patches
- Provide proactive reasoning on why certain patches shouldn’t be installed i.e. simply not relevant based on the info given or the patch has known instability history or the
- Use and adopt automated tools provided by the client to apply the patches with minimal impact, e.g. out of hours or at times acceptable with the Service Owners
- Prioritise deployment of patches against priority of services i.e. Mission Critical, Business Critical and other
- Work with the Server Owners to plan the update of 3rd party software updates for Business Owned servers e.g. Google Chrome, Firefox etc.
- Investigate any failed MS patch deployments and put into place detailed processes to resolve these
- Working from a Qualys customised vulnerability report provided by the Cyber Security division to highlight obsolete software and have it uninstalled/updated, and any config changes required to make the server compliant.
- Run monthly compliance reports and present these to the Senior Management team
- Document procedures for the full patch management across the estate
About you
Key Skills:
- Deployment experience with using SCCM MECM 2103
- ITIL v3
- Experience with vulnerability platforms, such as Qualys
- Patch management experience Fluent English, both spoken and written
- Demonstrate strong process skills
