Mabbett is an independent planning, design, environment, engineering and safety consultancy established in 1996 in Glasgow, Scotland. Since then the firm has grown to employ over 110 motivated engineers, scientists and supporting professionals across the U.K.

The Role:

We are seeking to recruit a Senior or Principal Sustainability Consultant to work within the Environment Group, with Project Management and People Management skills.

You will primarily work from home (in the UK) in the short term, unless this is unavailable to you. You will be provided with all IT equipment and software/services require to facilitate your efficient home working. Long term arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate – we are a flexible employer and are willing to consider any arrangement that is desirable to you.

Position Overview and Responsibilities:

The Senior Sustainability Consultant is targeted at assisting the Environment Group with sustained project delivery to excellent quality and growth of the team and workload.

Project work in the short term will be targeted around circular economy, net zero strategy and ISO management systems support, with growth into complementary sustainability business areas as per client requirements and growth plans.

The successful candidate will work in a client-facing role with lead responsibilities for excellent project delivery, valued outcomes and great customer service. Our clients are wide and varied, bringing diversity and interest to the project portfolio mix. You will be working with environmental and carbon/GHG consultants, IEMA trainers, environmental legal compliance auditors, circular economy professionals, food waste specialists, chemical/process engineers and mechanical engineers across Mabbett, but based within the Environment Group.

Clients include food and drink companies, pharmaceuticals, construction, manufacturing, engineering, defence, and commercial sectors. We work in the UK and overseas. We are looking for a candidate to lead and grow our sustainability and environmental consulting practice – delivering and winning projects.

The Candidate:

The ideal candidate will have experience with regards to two or more of the following areas/disciplines, preferably with industrial and consultancy experience including both project scoping/budgeting and delivery:

  • Net Zero Strategy development and delivery
  • ISO 14001, ISO 50001, ISO 9001 – (e.g. development, delivery, auditing, training)
  • Driving performance improvement in environmental and/or sustainability in organisations
  • Knowledge and experience of environmental legislation and its direct application in the UK, funding frameworks, procurement frameworks and how government policy is driving future business
  • Board-level workshops for sustainability – design, facilitation and delivery
  • International good practice projects

Personal Attributes/Skills:

  • Successful track record in delivering multiple environmental and sustainability projects from start-to-finish, managing a small team, developing great client relationships and winning work
  • Solutions-oriented; ability to motivate others to implement solutions and to drive sales and project results
  • Organised, logical and structured; attention to detail
  • Communication and training/facilitation skills
  • Bringing numeracy, data analysis/interpretation, business acumen
  • Creative thinking and ability to identify and drive new business opportunities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Professional software packages, including Excel
  • Language skills (English minimum)

The position may require travel (including occasional overnight stays) throughout Scotland, the U.K. and overseas depending on project requirements. Company pool cars are available for business travel – a valid driving licence is required, valid passport and photo ID is required for air travel. Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.K.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and position requirements.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess an Honours or Master’s Degree in Science, Environmental Management, Engineering, Sustainability, Waste, Energy, Business, Quality Management, or similar, and have a have a full U.K. driving licence with clean driver record. Professional chartership(s) would be viewed favourably.
