Job Title: Security Supervisor

The four Security Supervisors are part of a team working to provide a safe and secure environment at all sites of Kingston University. Each provides hands-on management of a team (currently 32 officers and two CCTV Operators) who work nights and days covering all campuses and halls of Residence sites at Kingston University. The teams currently work on a four on four off shift pattern. It is also important that each supervisor develops and maintain good working relationships with their counterpart.
The role of Security Supervisor involves operating as part of the KUSCO Team, and so requires a positive, flexible, customer-oriented attitude to the work. It also involves supporting the company’s image by talking about it in a positive light, promoting improvements to working practices which are beneficial to the company’s long and short term business strategies regardless of personal views; adopting a quality approach to all aspects of work, and encouraging others to achieve high standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- To visit and check all sites on a frequent basis throughout each shift to monitor site activity.
- To deal with immediate staffing level issues
- To assist with and report on the recruitment, training, induction, development of all Security Officers
- To maintain good relations and liaise with the emergency services, Halls Management teams and other members of KUSCO and University staff, as required
- To operate and manage the access control JANUS database, service desk Portal and JANUS Enterprise on a daily/nightly basis, responding to all access control issues
- To operate and manage the key/locks database/Service Desk Portal on a daily/nightly basis, liaising with the security administrator to order
The Candidate:
Essential:
- Proven leadership skills and motivation – Demonstrable experience as a Line Manager, including performance management
- High level of communication and influencing skills – ability to explain things clearly and sensitively, capacity to exert authority in difficult situations
- Attention to detail – ability to be vigilant and notice details
- Ability to produce professionally written documentation, including reports
- High level of initiative – ability to work with little supervision and decide how best to deal with situations, including emergencies or other unexpected situations.
- Prioritisation of own workload and recognition of when to escalate issues to Security Management
- Flexibility – ability to change routines and adapt working practices if necessary, at short notice
- Previous experience of working regular shifts, including nights
- Attending all training provided
Desirable:
- 5 years plus in Security in a similar environment
- Qualified or working towards a degree in Security & Risk Management
- Experience in facilities management services provider in Higher Education establishment
