The British Dental Association (BDA) is the national professional association for dentists in the UK and we are currently seeking a Senior Policy Advisor.
Role Overview:
This is a full-time permanent post and the post-holder will be initially home-based during lockdown restrictions but will eventually be based in our office in Belfast. The role will focus on managing the business of the Northern Ireland Dental Practice Committee; working with committee officers and the National Director to develop and deliver clear policy outcomes and developing and maintaining key relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
You will be responsible for:
- Identifying areas for analysis, policy development and research;
- Providing high level policy and advice input to the Northern Ireland Dental Practice Committee
- Drafting policy options papers on issues pertinent to committee business in conjunction with the Policy and Research team
- Providing policy input to enable member advice to reflect all aspects of proposals for general dental practice for Northern Ireland, acting as the lead point of contact for the Organisation in all matters relating to Northern Ireland Dental Practice Committee
- Monitoring relevant developments in factors which impact on primary care dentistry in Northern Ireland and analyse and disseminate them as appropriate
- Supporting committee officers and the National Director in establishing contacts and liaising with relevant external stakeholders and organisations including the Department of Health Social services and Public Safety
About you:
The successful candidate should have:
- Experience of developing policy in the healthcare industry or other setting
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- The ability to organise and prioritise own workload and to work on own initiative
- Negotiation, persuasion and influencing skills
- The ability to communicate with professionals at all levels
- Good presentation skills enabling public speaking to large and small groups
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good IT skills including knowledge of MS Office and experience of using databases
- The ability to provide analysis including statistical analyses and to communicate complex issues
