The Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE) is a Bristol-based national charity that supports people and organisations across the UK to tackle the climate emergency and end the suffering caused by cold homes. We do this by sharing our knowledge, practical experience and policy insights.
The Role:
To provide in-house IT management, advice, and support across both CSE and our subsidiary, Retrofit West CIC; working with CSE’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT), and leading on the relationship with CSE’s external IT support provider, ADT across all aspects of CSE’s activities; to ensure CSE has the technical capability and resource to maximise productivity and support all operational functions of the organisation.
To take ownership of IT system challenges across CSE and Retrofit West CIC, manage risks and help identify cross organisational IT solutions which meet our varied needs, and ensure we are future-proofed, and our IT is fit for purpose.
Specific Responsibilities:
Internal IT delivery, Support and Planning:
- Be primary in-house lead on all IT matters within CSE, maintaining CSE IT systems and functions – in collaboration with ADT where appropriate.
- To provide support / direction to the Senior Administration Officer in their IT support duties (e.g. day to day issues that arise with staff IT).
- To discover, plan and deliver cost effective hardware and software solutions, providing internal advice and guidance as to what will work more effectively for the organisation.
- To advise on cross-organisational decisions relating to IT, providing guidance on appropriate IT platform solutions and technology investments for SLT consideration and approval.
- To support CSE in maximising our productivity by finding IT solutions that visualise information that’s been consolidated from a variety of sources.
- To provide support associated with aspects of IT infrastructure within CSE – including managing and overseeing all equipment and security of CSE’s on-site server room.
- To ensure CSE’s business continuity plans for IT are sufficient and tested, that knowledge is appropriately shared and documented, and that operational changes has all dependencies and risks well-managed
- To provide specific support and advice associated with CSE’s in-house databases
- To maintain all CSE IT systems and functions
- To drive sustainability and environmental best-practice across CSE’s IT delivery
- Creating and implementing CSE’s IT policy and best practice guides
- Provide reports as required by the Director of Finance & Operations / SLT
External Management:
- To act as primary liaison with external IT support provider, (ADT) who provide remote support for all staff
- To provide liaise with CSE’s external database developer
Data Protection, Security & Governance:
- To act as Data Protection Officer for CSE, as well as CSE lead on GDPR and broader cyber security (undertaking appropriate training as required)
- To provide support in all data requests, including Subject Access Requests – liaising with ADT where necessary
The Candidate:
Qualifications:
- GCSE English & Mathematics
- A relevant degree or IT qualification (Desirable)
Knowledge:
- Understanding of a wide range of hardware and platforms in networking, security, Apple and IOS, and the Microsoft technology stack from desktop, to server, to cloud
Experience:
- Demonstrable previous experience overseeing IT teams and the delivery of projects
- Experience in staff supervision/delegation of tasks
Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to simplify complex IT issues for non-experts and across all levels
- Strong commercial and negotiation skills together with an ability to commission external suppliers and services
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong organisation and time management
- Excellent development skills, keeping up to date with new developments and innovations in the industry
- Ability to self-manage tasks
