Job Title: Senior Infrastructure Engineer

Salary: £50k – £55k  per Annum DOE

The position:

We are looking for an experienced Infrastructure Engineer with an appreciation of cloud platforms, who is driven to expand that knowledge as part of our Team.

You will be supporting both internal IT and platforms hosting external customers in a fast-paced department, balanced across traditional Data Centre infrastructure and Microsoft Azure.

As part of the role you will:

  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of existing systems, as well as the creation of new systems and process documentation.
  • Have the ability to perform research and investigation into systems in preparation for implementation/support
  • Provide technical leadership where required in dealing with BAU escalated incidents and problems to establish root cause, issue workarounds and resolutions using Change Control where appropriate
  • Undertake monitoring and environment planning activities
  • Lead by example to ensure high standards of professionalism when delivering service to the business. This must include a sound work ethic, good timekeeping, and a proactive attitude.
  • Exhibit diligence in performing routine maintenance tasks with the remit to address security vulnerabilities and critical version upgrades.
  • Provide out of hours assistance in critical situations and take part in on-call activities.

As the ideal candidate you will have: 

  • Deep and demonstrable understanding of Microsoft products and platforms as well as network fundamentals and Virtualisation including: –
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2012-2019
  • Network load balancing and clustering technologies
  • Administration and support of Azure workloads
  • Strong knowledge of Hyper-V in an enterprise environment
  • Thorough knowledge/experience of troubleshooting networking protocols and technologies such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing and vLANs
  • SQL Administration
  • Backup Technologies and Disaster Recovery
  • Experience of patch management deployment/Windows Software Update Services
  • Experience delivering projects to deadlines and managing third party involvement efficiently where required.

If you have any of the following that would also be an advantage

  • Knowledge of scripting
  • Appreciation of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and how it is used to manage and deploy services to the cloud.
  • Experience in installing, configuring, and managing switches, firewalls, and routers.
  • Infrastructure design, implementation, and administration.
  • IP Telephony
  • Administration and deployment of SAN technology
  • Application Virtualisation
