The Role:
You will assist in the installation, commissioning and operation of ST40 control systems, power supplies and NBI (Neutral Beam Injection) systems for their ST40 projects. Reporting to the Senior Electrical Engineer and working with the electrical engineers daily to progress installations on various tasks.
You will also work with technicians and supply general engineering support to scientists. ST40 is well on plan for test and operation in mid-2019 and within the company’s electrical engineering team there are several projects running in parallel that need of a highly skilled electrical and electronics technician.
You will be highly motivated, a team player and require low supervisions. They will have a strong interest in fusion science and wants to understand “how” and “why”.
Key Responsibilities:
- Electrical installation planning and supervision on a variety of sub-projects
- Assessing and purchasing materials for electrical installations
- Design, installation, inspection, testing and commissioning of electrical distribution, switch gear
- Design and installation of cable containment
- Assist in the Personell Protection System design and installation
- Assist in the control panel layout, design, installation, inspection and testing and commissioning
- Produce prototype builds from either discussion or electrical drawings
- Mechanical fabrication and installation supervision
- Vacuum system installation
- Instrumentation of cryogenics test equipment
- Testing and developing controls and power electronics with Engineers
- Assessing and writing risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) for installation and operational equipment
- Identifying and ordering installation components
Key Requirements:
Essential:
- City and Guilds 2382, BS7671 18th edition wiring regulations
- NVQ level 3, wiring systems and appliances, installation and maintenance
- City and Guilds 2391, inspection, testing and certification of electrical installations
- Experience in supervising installations and small teams
- Working from drawings
- Working from and writing RAMS
- Field wiring installations and control systems wiring
- Mechanical fitting
- Safety recognition
- Vocational and communications skills
Desirable:
- City and Guilds 2360 part 3, installation work and regulations
- ONC electrical/electronic minimum
- Forklift and Crane licence
- MEWP licence
- Rigging and sling
- PLC programming and interrogation
- High current power supplies familiarisation
- Welding, large scale soldering
- Cryogenics systems integration and instrumentation
- Vacuum systems
