Job Title: Senior Biomedical Scientist in Clinical Biochemistry
Location: Basildon and Thurrock, Essex
Salary: £38,890 – £44,503 depending on experience + £5,000 joining bonus

The Company provides a wide range of testing capabilities from workplace drug and alcohol testing, food testing, oil and fuel testing, veterinary testing and advanced pathology services through to the most innovative molecular and genetic diagnostic tests available today.
They work closely with clinicians, hospitals, occupational health providers and clinical researchers to provide a complete pathology offering.
The Role
They have a great opportunity for an experienced specialist BMS to join a remarkable and dynamic clinical biochemistry team as a Team Manager. This is a great step up for a specialist BMS into management. The post holder will be required to oversee and manage a team of biomedical scientists, as well as junior and support staff who perform analyses and processes.
Duties will include:
- To manage day to day staffing, workflow and relevant training to ensure turnaround times and services are maintained
- To assist in the creation of appropriate links with all users of the service to optimise the service
- To develop, prepare, write and review relevant documents, including SOPs
- To be an active member of the quality team and conduct and participate in audit processes and be responsible for investigating non-compliances
- To participate in, monitor and report on EQA and IQC procedures and be responsible for correcting problems that have been identified
- To analyse biological samples by manual and Specialist methods to provide a diagnostic Clinical Chemistry service
- To undertake appropriate clinical audit when required and to facilitate and maintain UKAS requirements. Monitor, report and action errors, hazards and incidents
The Candidate:
- HCPC registration as a biomedical scientist
- MSc, FIBMS, or IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma, or equivalent in clinical biochemistry and/or experience in an equivalent role
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Level 2 or above management qualification (desirable)
- Ability to work across 3 different sites in a 24-7 work environment if/and when required
- Able to demonstrate a good knowledge and experience of industry standard laboratory information management systems and computer applications including Word, Excel, Power Point, Access and Statistical Package
