Job Title: Senior Automation Design Engineer
Location: Poole, Dorset & WFH (1 day)
Salary: £45,000 – £55,000 per annum
Job type: Permanent/Full-time
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.30pm
We are natural & smoke ventilation specialist and are currently looking for a Project Planner to join our busy projects team. We have been trading since 1988 and are one of the leading specialists in our field of natural & smoke ventilation supplying products in the UK to both individuals and trade customer alike.
The Role:
Vent Engineering has an opportunity available for an experienced Automation Design Engineer with the ability to develop and specify our smoke ventilation control systems which are utilised for smoke ventilation life safety control systems. The company is constantly assessing and developing its ranges within its control’s portfolio with the focus of this is to introduce new technology and ideas.
The ideal Automation Design Engineer must be innovative and have a proven track record of the design and development of machinery automation projects, be a team player and have the desire to succeed.
A high level of attention to detail is essential coupled with self-critical analysis. You will be required to provide detailed documentation both during and upon project completion to other departments, therefore experience of planning and managing of projects to time and cost constraints is beneficial.
This position will involve electrical wiring design and Programming of Industrial Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s).
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a vibrant team. You will be predominantly office based, with occasional site visits that may be required at customer sites for commissioning/trouble shooting of systems. You would be part of a small team, being centre point of technical support with companies’ project managers.

- Must be a good communicator at all levels
- Occasional Site Commissioning
About you:
We’re looking for someone who’s a good communicator, hard-working and self-motivated.
Minimum HNC Degree qualified electrically bias Engineer with a background preferably of 5 years working in the building services, industrial automation or commercial industry would be perfectly suited to this opportunity.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications Required:
- Control System Design (Electrical circuit design & calculations)
- AutoCAD LT Drafting (Mechanical, Equipment Layout, Circuit Diagrams, Drawing Standards & Document Control)
- Compiling Items Lists (Using Microsoft Excel)
- PLC & HMI Programming; Industry Standard Ladder Programming (LD). Industrial communication protocols TCP/IP & Modbus. HMI Animated Graphical Representation Programming
- Control panel testing and electrical fault finding for bespoke projects
- Providing remote support for Commissioning Engineers through TeamViewer
- Previous experience with Schneider PLC’s, HMI’s and VSD’s would be helpful but not essential
