Job Title: Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality Officer
Location: Corpach, Fort William (travelling will be required for this post).
Salary: circa £38,500, depending on experience and qualifications.
Job type: Full-time. 40 hours per week. Monday to Friday. 8am to 5pm. Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the business.
About the role:
- Responsible for the monitoring of Health & Safety of operations throughout the entire business, covering transport, port and warehousing activities and interfacing with the marine department on port and shipping aspects;
- Must keep up to date with relevant legislation;
- Ensure the company policies relating to Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) are complied with and upheld at all times;
- Ensure that other relevant company and department policies and procedures are complied with and upheld at all times;
- Travel, overnight stays and overtime, including weekend work, will be required at times due to the nature of the business.
About you:
- NEBOSH qualified with a background in Health & Safety;
- Knowledge of MS Office, PowerPoint, Outlook;
- Confident, professional manner;
- Strong organisational skills with excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
- Excellent attention to detail including proof-reading skills;
- The ability to think ahead and regularly cope with new/unexpected circumstances and tight deadlines.
Main Responsibilities:
- Overseeing the day to day running of the SHEQ department;
- Undertake safety inspections of all depots/yards within Ferguson Transport premises (including Kishorn, Invergordon and Grangemouth);
- Interface with our port and pier operations and with our DPA for marine and port activities;
- Keep abreast of any changes or amendments to SHEQ or Corporate Social Responsibilities legislation and communicate these too staff members when required;
- Undertake annual audits of the Health & Safety inspections;
- Review risk assessments and Health & Safety policy annually;
- Make up new risk assessments and method statements when required;
- Log and file housekeeping sheets from different departments;
- Prepare new safety/working procedures for all aspects of the business when required;
- Create safe working procedures booklets for transport/shipping and keep up to date;
- Log, file and follow up and incident reports and hazard reports;
- Log and follow up unsafe behaviour reports/safety action cards and liaise with managers and HR;
- Organise and monitor PAT testing;
- Organise and monitor Fire Safety – including regular drills and reviews of the various fire risk assessments;
- Organise various Health & Safety training;
- Provide support to managers for Health & Safety matters;
- Ensure that accreditations such as SQAS / FIAS are kept up to date and any audit work that may be associated with this;
- Audit various parts of the business to ensure compliance with SHEQ and CSR;
- Provide internal training or memos where required to educate employees on Health & Safety issues;
- Monitor and keep up the quality management and assurance schemes already in place;
- Any other tasks as assigned by management;
- Ensure that you conduct yourself in a business like and professional manner at all times;
- Ability to multi-task and prioritise your workload;
- Ability to ensure confidentiality is adhered to at all times.
