Job Title: Relationship Manager – Waste Management

Job Role:
- To establish and maintain a preferred supplier list (PSL) and set of service, compliance and price levels for core suppliers and a list of specialist suppliers, auditing these to maintain standards
- To create and maintain a reference resource for other members of the group’s outlining each supplier’s (core and specialist) capabilities and services including a pricing matrix
- To create and maintain strong working relationships with their suppliers to ensure that they and their clients experience the best service, compliance and price
- To manage the Compliance Officer and Customer Service Team Leader
- To use your knowledge and expertise to ensure that the company remains at the forefront of developments in waste to meet its customer demands
Key Responsibilities:
Individual Contribution
- Identify the expected and ‘superior’ levels of service, compliance and price that is expected from their suppliers
- Review all existing core service suppliers and rate them against the expected and ‘superior’ levels of service, compliance and price
- Identify a preferred supplier list (PSL) of core service suppliers ensuring these meet their expected and where possible ‘superior’ levels of service, compliance and price
- Create and launch service level agreements (SLA) for core service suppliers on PSL
- Identify specialised services for which they need new or more suppliers; source suitable specialist suppliers; rating them against the expected and ‘superior’ levels of service, compliance and price
- Where appropriate, create and launch service level agreements (SLA) for specialised service suppliers
- Create in a readily available and easily understandable format, a resource to outline each supplier’s (core and specialist) capabilities and services including a pricing matrix for use by other members of the group crucially the Business Development team
- Prior to creating such a resource, support the Business Development team in acquiring the services and prices from both existing and potentially new supply partners
- Carry out training with other members of the group covering the preferred supplier list, supplier’s (core and specialist) capabilities and services and service level agreements
Leadership
- Manage the Compliance Officer and Customer Service Team Leader including where appropriate
- Escalation point for Compliance Officer and Customer Service Team Leader with supplier issues
- Point of contact for HR concerns escalated by Compliance Officer and Customer Service Team Leader
- For the Compliance Officer, management of workloads and work flow
- With Customer Service Team Leader agree targets and objectives for staff and provide support and guidance on managing staff performance;
- Agree objectives for Compliance Officer and Customer Service Team Leader and regularly monitor their performance against these through the PRDP process;
- Regular communication to Compliance Officer and Customer Service Team Leader through informal and formal channels such as team and one to one meetings
- Fostering team spirit by encouraging, supporting, coaching and motivating
Additional Responsibilities
- Undertake any reasonable duties as required to meet the needs of the business
Skills and Experience required:
- Experience of working in the waste industry and a knowledge of and understanding of waste management solutions and legislation is essential
- Knowledge of the asbestos and/or hazardous waste market would be an advantage but not essential
- Experience of supply chain management is not essential and candidates from a business development or account management background who wish to change their focus would be welcome
- Experience of people management is essential
- A very personable ‘can do’ attitude and an ability to be self-sufficient and self-motivate is essential
- Socially confident with a proven ability to quickly build relationships both internally and externally
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong negotiating skills with a proven track record of successful negotiations
- Structured, organised with the ability to multi-task
- PC literate with good knowledge of IT systems, Microsoft Office suite
