Job Title: Registered Manager – Children’s Residential Services

Salary: £42,614 – £47,665 plus additional on call payments
Job Type: Full Time/Permanent – 37-hour p/w
This is a full-time position and may involve working some evenings and weekends alongside the staff team where necessary. You will be expected to undertake on call duties as part of a rota.

We are very excited to be opening a brand-new Children’s home within Walsall caring for children and young people aged between 7-18 years.
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, highly motivated, experienced individual, who has the appropriate skills to set up and lead a new Children’s home, through to Ofsted registration, and take on the role of Registered Manager. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of one-year experience managing and supervising staff within a Children’s Residential home and possess a Level 5 diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification.
About the role:
Through personal commitment and clear action, the post-holder will promote the Council’s employment policies, with particular reference to diversity, equality of access and treatment in employment, service delivery and community involvement. To support/develop a working culture within these services that reflects the corporate vision.
Ensure that the services provided aligned to the Council strategy, vision, aims, objectives, priorities and continuous improvement programme and play their part in achieving these.
This includes:
- The post holder will comply with and promote the Council’s Health, Wellbeing and Safety at Work policies and ensure these are implemented effectively within his/her areas of responsibility.
- A priority for the Council is the protection of vulnerable people, ensuring they are able to live as independently as possible. The post-holder will promote and engage with Council’s responsibility to safeguard the welfare of children, young people and adults, and protect their right to be safe from harm.
- As this is a new home, the successful candidate will be on board from the beginning and take a lead role in shaping and developing the home, its systems and procedures. This would ideally suit someone looking for a challenge to succeed and an opportunity to progress their career and instil their own vision, plans and ideas, whilst also promoting the ethos and vision of Walsall council.
- The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate an excellent understanding of the needs of young people in care. They should have extensive knowledge and understanding of the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015, the guide to the Quality standards, Ofsted’s Social Care Common Framework (SCCIF) and other relevant statutory legislation, guidance and good practice.

- Enhanced DBS disclosure is required for this post
- Ability/willingness to work across children’s residential services as required
- To undertake on-call duties on a rota basis (allowance payable)
- To fulfil the requirements of ‘fit person’ as determined by the relevant registration body
- To communicate verbally with customers and provide advice and/or information in accurate spoken English
Important: Our Residential Homes can accommodate children up to 18 years of age. Due to the nature of this post the Department for Education National Minimum Standards state that the employees must be 4 years older than the oldest resident. Therefore, applicants must be 22 years of age or older.
This post is covered by the Government’s Code of Practice on the English Language Fluency Duty for public sector workers. The postholder will be required to communicate verbally with customers and provide advice and/or information in accurate spoken English.
