Job Title: Prototype Manufacturing Engineer

The Company aims to accelerate the development of fusion energy by combining two emerging technologies – spherical tokamaks and high-temperature superconductors.
The Company was originally established in 2009 to design and develop small Spherical Tokamaks and compact fusion reactors for a range of applications. Since then, the strategy has evolved to prioritise building a pilot plant to exceed fusion energy breakeven.
Main Responsibilities:
- Evaluate manufacturing processes by applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors and end users.
- Work closely with the engineering and design teams to develop and implement engineering solution to complex tasks.
- Improve manufacturing efficiency by analysing and planning work, space requirements, and equipment layout.
- Work closely with the project manager to deliver the business plan
- Assure product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes.
- Provide manufacturing decision-making information using labour, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.
- Provide manufacturing engineering information by answering questions and requests.
- Keep equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services; following manufacturer’s instructions and established procedures; requesting special service.
- Maintain product and process data base as required.
- Complete design and development projects by training and guiding technicians.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Develop and maintain quality procedures where required.
- Develop risk assessments with the H&S Manager
Skills & Qualifications:
- Engineering degree or equivalent experience
- Good understanding of material selection for use in low temperature /magnetic environments.
- Conversant with instrumentation for temperature / mechanical measurement.
- Experience within an engineering environment ideally within R&D or low volume production
- Experienced in modern manufacturing techniques and application through reduced waste and lower stock.
- Experience of developing / supporting quality systems
- Experience in writing manufacturing and test procedures
- Experienced in interrogating electrical and mechanical drawings
