DB Cargo UK is the UK’s largest rail freight company. We provide freight, infrastructure and passenger charter trains throughout the UK, and freight services to and from mainland Europe via the Channel Tunnel. We also provide traction and train crew for scheduled passenger operators.

The role:

We are looking for a Project Manager to join our Property Team here at DB Cargo UK. The successful candidate will assume responsibility for the day-to-day management of all project activity within the Property Team, but may also work for the Operational and Sales Teams working on DB Cargo and Customer related projects.

This role offers hybrid working between personal residence and DB Cargo UK’s headquarters at Doncaster Headquarters. Due to the nature of the position travelling to different DB Cargo UK’s sites will be required.

What will you be doing?

Here are some of the responsibilities that the successful candidate will have on a day-to-day basis:

  • Leading on engagement and developing relationships with our customers and project partners.
  • Delivery of projects from inception to completion ensuring scope, contracts, budgets and QA procedures are all in place and maintained through the project lifecycle.
  • Ensuring that technical and commercial specifications, drawings and schedules are produced that comply with the scope of services.
  • Preparing and distributing as appropriate Monthly Reports, meeting minutes and deliver presentations as and when required.
  • Interfacing with internal teams – Property, Sales, Infrastructure, IT, Legal, Compliance / Safety and Operations as necessary throughout projects.
  • Leading engagement with consultant and contractors, eg quantity surveyors, architects, engineers, specialist designers.
  • Reacting to changes within the project scope based on customer requirements, planning permissions or operational activity whilst ensuring project delivery.
  • Driving initiatives and positive change within DB Cargo Project Management to drive down cost and improve efficiency and customer service.

What are we looking for?

The successful candidate will need to have the minimum HNC/HND in a Building/Civil Engineering or related discipline. It is also desirable for the successful candidate to have a chartered membership of an appropriate construction focused association or institute.

The successful candidate will have a good understanding and good knowledge of construction and the design processes that follow.

Due to the nature of the role, it is also desirable that the successful candidate has a strong understanding of health and safety legislation, including CDM Regulations and ROGS.

We are also looking for a candidate who has an understanding of various types or procurement methods and contract administration requirements including JCT, NEC3 and NEC4.
