We’re looking for a Project Support Officer to join the Transformation Delivery Team here at Norfolk County Council and support the delivery of major transformation projects across the organisation. We have some exciting programmes currently such as Net Zero, Smarter Working, Home to School Transport, Fire Service equipment facilities improvement, Oracle replacement programme and Digital Service Transformation with Adults and Children’s departments, and the Project Support Officer will play a key role in helping us to deliver them.

Norfolk County Council is the main local authority for Norfolk providing services countywide to Norfolk residents. We take a lead in critical policy areas, and we work in partnership with local businesses, voluntary organisations and other local authorities in order to provide the people of Norfolk with first class services.

The role sits within our newly formed Transformation Directorate, which is a critical team responsible for changing and evolving the services we provide, and how we deliver them, in line with our core principles. It’s a team with a broad remit and involvement across every service within the organisation, and one that have a big impact on ensuring positive outcomes for the people of Norfolk.

The core focus of the role will be to provide support that facilitates the smooth running of projects and programmes. This will mean keeping project plans and governance on track, providing regular updates to project managers and other stakeholders, and advising on potential risks and issues. You’ll be involved in keeping the project plan up to date, as well as other project documentation, and will maintain oversight of how the project is progressing, ensuring you are flagging any potential problems as soon as possible. You’ll also be involved in ad hoc tasks such as arranging and coordinating meetings, conducting research, providing advice and guidance, and general support and project administration. Working in a fast paced, constantly evolving environment you’ll need first class communication skills, the ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously, and a positive and proactive approach.

To be considered for the role you’ll need proven experience of working on projects (as a Project Officer / Support Officer / Coordinator / Administrator or similar) in a structured, process driven environment, and will also have demonstrable experience in an office environment and/or large-scale organisation. You’ll need solid all round IT skills, excellent communication and relationship building skills, and experience working in a team environment. We’re looking for someone is highly organised, able to manage priorities effectively, loves problem solving and is able to use their initiative.

We know we’re asking for a lot, but in return we think we have a lot to offer. There’s the role itself, where you will play a key role in supporting large scale projects that will bring benefits to Norfolk County Council and to Norfolk as a whole. Then there’s the working environment here, where we put work life balance at the forefront and offer flexible, smarter working arrangements, all underpinned by leading edge technology. We’re open to people working from home for the bulk of the time, but if you’re already in (or would consider relocating to) Norfolk, we think our unique blend of beaches, broads, countryside and culture is hard to beat!

If you’re still reading, and you think you have what it takes, then we would love to hear from you.

All our office-based roles are currently working from home as part of our Smarter Working plans and to support the health and safety of all our colleagues. We anticipate that working remotely will be a key feature of this role and when offices re-open your office base will be County Hall, Norwich. Our technology platform and equipment are first class, enabling you to connect and collaborate remotely. We ask that you have in place good Broadband connectivity.
