Role Overview:
techUK is looking to employ for a new role working across our established SME and Nations and Regions programmes. This position is perfect for a proactive, enthusiastic, and driven individual seeking to make the case for regional tech economies, growth and support of tech SMEs and policies that support the UK tech sector through the delivery of an exciting and interesting programme of work.
Sitting across the Markets and Membership departments within techUK this is a new role with scope to shape the two important aspects of techUK’s work.
Role Purpose
This role reports to techUK’s Head of Nations and Regions. This role has a wide-ranging brief that allows scope for input and programme leadership on several key aspects of techUK’s work. The role provides an opportunity to work with representatives from the tech industry as well as public and private sector partners allowing the successful candidate to develop a programme of work that support techUK growth objectives, membership engagement and wider policy positioning. The role will help drive collaboration across techUK’s programmes as well as furthering techUK’s devolved and regional engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Raising the profile of techUK in target regions of the UK and identifying new opportunities for engagement across techUK’s programmes
- Retention and recruitment of members across the UK
- Develop activities to support tech SMEs, locally and nationally
- Tracking and writing internal reports on member engagement
- Working with techUK’s Business Development team on recruitment and new member onboarding aligned with financial targets
- Driving an engaging programme, including virtual and in person policy briefings, roundtables, events and other opportunities in identified geographic regions of the UK
- Supporting techUK’s research and policy work through articles, papers and campaigns related to SMEs, local digital economies and devolved tech policy
- Updating the website, creating social media content, writing engaging newsletters, event management
- Working on projects aligned to techUK’s public affairs engagement in these two programme areas particularly in devolved nations and mayoral authorities
- Any other duties that may be required to support the wider techUK programme activities and team.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Core Competencies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to identify, propose and negotiate new opportunities for techUK;
- A self-motivated individual with a positive approach who is comfortable working in a high pressure, fast-paced environment with competing demands and deadlines.
- Ability to use the tools and technologies techUK provides; including but not limited to Microsoft 365, CRM, online conferencing platforms and home working software.
Essential Knowledge and Experience
- Experience of event organisation;
- Experience of managing relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and comfortable working with those at a senior level in industry and national or regional government.
- Strong interest in technology, innovation and the tech industry.
Desired Knowledge and Experience
- Experience of managing or supporting multiple projects;
- An understanding of the UK political structures or policy formulation;
- A good understanding of challenges facing small and medium sized businesses
Additional Information:
This is a full-time home-based role working in either Manchester or Scotland. The role will include some travel to meetings, events and techUK’s London HQ and include some out of hours work as required.
This role profile is a guide to the work that is required but does not form part of any contract of employment and may change from time to time to reflect changing circumstances.
The successful candidate must have permission to work in the UK prior to the commencement of employment.
The salary range for this role is £30,000-£38,000 per annum based upon experience plus discretionary bonus and comprehensive benefits.
