The Role:
This new role at techUK offers an exciting opportunity to join our fast-paced and growing tech and innovation programme that leads techUK’s work on emerging technologies such as quantum, drones, immersive technologies, metaverse and more. techUK plays an active role in showcasing and shaping these emerging and transformative technologies, understanding how we get innovation right for the economy, people, society and the planet. Furthermore techUK’s new Innovation Hub and interlinked campaign is exploring what it means to make the UK a global leader in tech and offers the opportunity to drive change through addressing key barriers hindering innovation such as funding, skills, awareness and more.
The Emerging Technologies Programme Manager will support the Head of Tech and Innovation to deliver a successful programme of work and activities, building on techUK’s already established work in this area, such as techUK’s leading Quantum Commercialisation work, the Making the Metaverse campaign, the Future Visions Series, and the newer enabling innovation series as part of the new innovation campaign. By taking ownership for building a programme of events, podcasts, insights, opportunities and more, you will develop close relationships with techUK members, decision makers, civil society, and other key stakeholders that will supercharge UK tech. The activities and work you lead will feed directly into the wider tech and innovation programme’s work on current technologies including Cloud and AI, with the opportunity to help develop coherent and relevant policy recommendations where needed on behalf of our members. These activities will ensure techUK’s point of view and voice is clear, compelling, up-to-date and relevant to members and decision makers.

This role requires someone who can build connections and relationships with a variety of people, work independently and as part of a team, and consider the short, medium and long term implications and impact of emerging technologies on the UK economy, society and planet.

Key Responsibilities:
- Ensuring techUK’s voice on emerging and transformative technologies and innovations is relevant, credible and influential by becoming an active participant in the UK’s emerging technology communities and building trusted stakeholder relationships and an external reputation
- Building a programme of activities that showcases and demonstrates the value of emerging technology to the UK’s society, people, economy and the planet through events, podcasts, stakeholder roundtables and reports
- Promote programme content through insights, opinions, social media, and PR activities
- Be responsible for maintaining and growing techUK’s membership base in emerging technologies
- Work closely with other techUK teams to assist in a successful programme of press coverage, events, internal and external marketing and to ensure they are kept fully informed of major policy initiatives
About you:
Key competencies:
- Excellent communication and presentation skills. Able to develop clear and concise written communications including blogs, articles and consultation responses, as well as speaking at techUK run and other public events
- Ability to grow a campaign or programme and create a clear narrative throughout different events, podcasts, insights and member opportunities
- Ability to take on responsibility for key activities of the programme and be held accountable for actions and outcomes
Essential Knowledge and Experience:
- Strong capability and experience in researching, collating and presenting information
- Experience in planning and hosting webinars or events
- Experience in developing a programme of work or related product/programme management experience
