Job Title: Production Manager

Location: Based at Helsby with frequent travel to 2 sites in Bredbury

Salary: £35,000 – £50,000 per annum, Dependant on Experience

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent

Working Hours: 07:30 – 16:00 Monday to Friday

We are a manufacturing and engineering company with our headquarters and main manufacturing unit in Helsby Cheshire, we also have two manufacturing facilities at Bredbury, Stockport. The prime activity of the business is the manufacture of highly technical heating cables for use predominantly in the oil and gas and advanced processing industries.

About the role:

As the Production Manager you’ll work in both an office and on-site environment, with frequent travel required between our manufacturing sites. As a key member of the leadership team there may be some requirements to work outside of normal working hours to meet production deadlines or respond to urgent issues as we operate a 24-hour (3 shift) production pattern. You will be responsible for the strategic planning progress across production using proven continuous improvement techniques.

This role will be pivotal in meeting production targets to exceed customer expectations achieved by supporting the current team to drive forward a culture of collaboration and develop a modern production structure. Taking a hands-on approach to problem solving through strong leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • For production across three north west sites
  • Leading the multi skilled production teams and supporting their further development
  • To work with and develop key team leaders in each production location
  • Work closely with Sales/Customer Service teams and production planner to schedule production to meet customer demand
  • Continue the development of the new combined ERP/MRP/EMS system throughout the production team
  • Use visual management and 5S/Lean manufacturing techniques to review performance and develop best practice
  • Review developing trends and create action plans as required (e.g quality issues, production not on target)
  • Continually develop the team leading by example
  • Support quality team in management of the quality of production
  • Instigate and promote a continuous improvement culture
  • Adhere to all Health and Safety requirements, promoting a safety focussed environment
  • Ensure robust procedures and practices are in place to support the team in achieving goals
  • Contribute to strategic decisions on production assets, facilities and layouts
  • Support the Innovation and Technology team taking ownership and supporting the introduction of new production processes linked to new products

About you:

Essential Criteria:

  • Demonstrable experience of 5S and Lean Manufacturing
  • Experience of managing multiple teams/cross site working in a production environment
  • Ability to coach and mentor others, identifying development plans and creating robust succession plans
  • Good working knowledge of Health and Safety practices in a manufacturing environment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Great IT skills, proficient in Microsoft Excel to support work in progress and production schedules
  • Flexible approach to working hours
  • Full driving licence and own transport

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience of using Epicor as an operating system
  • IOSH Health and Safety Qualification
