Job Title: Production Manager / Production Engineer
Location: Rochester, Kent (Some travel will be required, pool car supplied)
Salary: £35K – £45k depending on experience + company pension scheme & healthcare.
Job Type: Full Time, Permanent. Standard hours 8am – 4pm Monday to Friday, although work outside of these hours will be required as well.
Holiday: 28 days per year including Bank Holidays, rising with length of service

With a worldwide customer base the business is a leader in the design and supply of power, control and monitoring systems across Marine, Specialist Vehicle and Off Grid market. They work with OEMS such as Vodafone, Sunseeker and the RNLI as well as individual projects and builds.
Job Role:
A technically capable Production Manager / Production Engineer is required to join their busy production workshop which builds electrical and control panels for marine, specialist vehicles and off-grid clients.
The role will consist of providing direct man management of production and support staff, managing stock levels and developing a continuous improvement program with respect to quality and productivity.
Their production department builds a variety of electrical panels to customer’s designs and to their own designs. Many of these builds are one offs.
The role of the Production Manager / Production Engineer is summarised as:
Enabling the workshop to produce high quality electrical builds that are tested correctly and built on time. To assist the team in improving productivity at the same time as improving skills and multi-disciplinary abilities. To work with their suppliers to ensure that they receive accurate, timely and high quality parts for their workshop to use.
Excellent communication skills and a proactive and resourceful management style are essential in this role.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- To evaluate working methods in production and administration to ensure maximum productivity
- To understand and investigate issues with Bills of Materials (BOM’s) and co-ordinate with Engineering to resolve
- To assist with resolving shortages of materials which may include alternate parts
- To understand times taken for jobs and develop metrics for evaluating group and individual performance
- To develop methods for production planning and scheduling that give better visibility of delivery dates and capacity
- To track quality issues from suppliers and within their builds and develop reporting methods so patterns and costs are more visible
- To monitor ‘make vs buy’ opportunities that will allow flexibility in the workplace
- To develop new working practices that will increase the productivity of their workshop
- To manage the recruitment, training schedule and development of their apprentices
- To manage the recruitment and development of the production and support staff
- Overseeing the ordering or materials
- Overseeing the issuing of materials to production
- To co-ordinate with Sales to best schedule work that can be done against priorities identified by sales
