The Company provides a wide range of testing capabilities from workplace drug and alcohol testing, food testing, oil and fuel testing, veterinary testing and advanced pathology services through to the most innovative molecular and genetic diagnostic tests available today.
They work closely with clinicians, hospitals, occupational health providers and clinical researchers to provide a complete pathology offering.
The Role
They are currently looking for a Production Manager who will be a key part of the Senior Management Team along with the General Manager & Deputy General Manager. The position is based at the company’s state of the art pathology lab in Basildon, Essex.
Duties will include:
- Responsible for a broad range of diagnostic laboratory services (Blood sciences – Haematology, Biochemistry, Blood Transfusion and other disciplines, including Histopathology and Microbiology)
- Managing Operation Managers from specific disciplines and ensure processes are constantly improved and that internal procedures for the approval of change are followed accordingly.
- Engage with a broad spectrum of stakeholders on both scientifically technical, operationally technical (financial, IT, people management) and non-technical subjects
- Ensuring there is appropriate capacity and capability planning to ensure all aspects of operational service performance can be consistently delivered
- Developing and monitoring service quality, effectiveness and efficiency metrics
- Communicating and reporting services performance, both orally at meetings and in written format
- You will be responsible for ensuring that diagnostic laboratory services achieve and maintain all necessary regulatory compliance, including Care Quality Commission, UKAS, MHRA, HTA and HCPC
- Develop the Laboratory leadership teams in the use of the key Operational Excellence tools, e.g. 5S, Environment Health and Safety (EHS) audits, TPM, standard workflow, Root Cause Corrective Action, capacity planning, waste reduction, single piece flow principles, daily management tools
The Candidate:
- Significant proven experience of successfully managing pathology laboratory
- HCPC registered biomedical scientist with highly developed expert knowledge in Chemistry, Haematology or Blood Transfusion. Qualified to MSc, Higher Specialist Diploma level or Fellowship of the IBMS, with evidence of appropriate Continuous Professional Development.
- Evidence of extensive people management responsibility and managing through others supported by a management qualification. Able to evidence appropriate use of formal procedures.
- Experience of both leading substantial change projects and delivering continuous improvement.
- Evidence of knowledge of production methodologies and able to demonstrate their application in a laboratory environment.
- Able to use standard Microsoft computer applications to a high standard. Able to use laboratory specific software to a high standard.
- Experience of Major Incident and Recovery planning; preferably with experience of responding to major incident at Silver Command level or above.
- Evidence strong service planning skill set.
- Evidence of broad communication skills set, both oral and written, with capability to motivate, persuade, negotiate and provide reassurance.
- Experience of managing a significant budget and successfully achieving financial targets
