Job Title: Process Safety Director
Location: Glasgow
Salary: £50,000 – £70,000 per annum

The company is a multi-disciplinary consultancy with a strong process safety offering. They are headquartered in the central belt of Scotland with offices around UK/ Ireland. The firm has grown significantly in recent years, currently numbering around 75 staff, and has further ambitious growth plans.
The firm is seeking to recruit a Process Safety Director to lead a team of process safety engineers in the delivery of diverse process safety consultancy projects across a wide range of sectors. This presents an excellent opportunity for someone at senior or principal level looking to advance their career to the next level, or someone at director level looking for a new challenge with an ambitious firm in a positive and supportive environment.

The Role:
Responsibilities will include:
- Developing a vision/strategy for the team, aligned with the overall business vision/strategy.
- Effectively resourcing, directing and developing the team.
- Monitoring delivery of agreed team business plan and profit goal and ensuring effective remedial action where required.
- Prioritising and co-ordinating resource allocation to achieve an effective commercial balance between client priorities and maximising utilisation/efficiency.
- Fulfilling a principal consultant role on a wide range of projects to provide technical input and QA/QC.
- Marketing and business development.
- Effective negotiation with the board for allocation of budget and resources to support the delivery of business plan.
- Monitoring and controlling overhead associated with team activities to ensure business expectations for profit are delivered.
- Ensuring the team achieves an effective balance between delivery of short-term results and developing capability, assets and resources for future growth.
- Working closely with other directors of the firm to support marketing and business development efforts.
- Informing and supporting innovation and new service development.
- Positively impacting on culture, engagement, and motivation of all team staff by providing highly visible role model leadership.
- Growing and enhancing the firm’s reputation through developing and building a wide-range of industry contacts.
About you:
Candidates fulfilling some or all of the following requirements may be well suited to the role. The firm do not require you to possess them all, you will have access to a strong and diverse team of consultants with a wide range of skills/capabilities.
Education/Qualification:
- Honours or Masters’ Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or similar. Applicants with a post-graduate in a relevant subject (e.g. MSc in Safety & Risk Management or Safety, Risk & Reliability Engineering) will also be considered.
- Membership of a related professional institute such as the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) or an equivalent body. Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Professional Process Safety Engineer (PEng) status would be advantageous.
- Full UK or Ireland driving licence and clean driver record.
Experience:
- Operating as a consultant across a wide range of industrial sectors for a minimum of 10 years e.g. food and drink, chemical, pharmaceutical, electronics, life sciences, oil and gas.
- Managing people and/or teams of process safety engineers in a consultancy environment.
- Fulfilling a director level role within a consultancy environment.
- The co-ordination and leadership of process safety consultancy projects to include:
- DSEAR/ATEX risk assessments and hazardous area classification.
- COMAH legislation and associated compliance requirements. Prior experience of the preparation of COMAH safety reports, hazardous substance consent applications, major accident prevention policies and ALARP justifications.
- The co-ordination and leadership of technical process safety studies to include HAZOP and HAZID studies.
- Prior experience of functional safety studies (e.g. LOPA, SIL studies) and/or quantitative risk assessment (e.g. occupied building risk assessment).
- A broad understanding of current UK health, safety and environmental legislation.
- Excellent project management, client interfacing and business development skills.
