Job Title: Process Engineer

Location: PQ Silicas – Warrington Site

Salary: Up to £52,600 per annum dependant on experience

Job Type: Permanent, Full Time

Working Hours: 37.5hr Week

Job Purpose:

  • To develop & maintain process knowledge & expertise for manufacturing assets at the Warrington site
  • To lead, manage and participate in process engineering studies, process designs and engineering projects to support the development of the site & business
  • To provide troubleshooting and support to production processes at the Warrington site
  • To lead & execute plant trials in order to support new product and process development

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Ensure that process safety is properly addressed & included in all process designs
  • Ensure Health, Safety and the Environment are properly considered in all process interactions
  • Comply fully with the required standards of good manufacturing practice (GMP), good hygienic practice (GHP) and HACCP that are applicable to the area of operation
  • Demonstrate appropriate training and competence in order to lead Hazop 3 reviews and perform pressure system calculations
  • Monitor process performance, so that issues are quickly identified and corrected to maintain process stability, using tools such as Aspen Process Explorer to aid troubleshooting
  • Support management of change to ensure effective control and approval of process changes
  • Design and develop new processes/products and improve existing processes/products to meet the project objectives and to ensure the necessary HSE and engineering standards (including relevant food/feed safety and cosmetic quality requirements) are met, including:
    • Equipment design and process specification
    • Equipment selection
    • Process economics
    • Commission, train operators and hand over to Operations
    • Process optimisation
  • Issue technical reports / process & equipment specifications so that information is readily available for internal use
  • Identify and evaluate process improvement opportunities
  • Provide technical / process troubleshooting to eliminate manufacturing problems
  • Work closely with people from different functions such as; Project Engineering, Quality, R&D, Operations and engage with external contacts such as equipment suppliers, toll manufacturers and professional services
  • Develop and maintain process knowledge & expertise for specific manufacturing technologies
  • Manage and control agreed process, product development and engineering projects to deliver the desired output in a timely, cost-effective manner
  • Champion the use of the PQ methodologies for structural improvement (7 steps) and executing projects

Knowledge Skills and Experience Required:

  • A university bachelor or master degree in (chemical / process) engineering and preferably (not essential) 1-5 years’ experience in the areas of process technology, engineering and project management within a large chemical manufacturing organisation
  • Good leadership, interpersonal, organisational and change management skills with the ability to converse with all levels of the organisation
  • The ability to work individually and as part of a team, interacting with different functions, relating to a wide range of personnel
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Good command of at least English and preferably other languages in written and spoken form
  • Where appropriate to the area of operation, a good understanding of good manufacturing practice, good hygiene practice and related product safety systems (such as HACCP) is required
