Our team has an important role to play in this. Due to an internal promotion, we need a Press and Media Officer for our busy Press Office who will work closely with the local, regional and national media to raise awareness of the Council’s work and promote the positive results the Council is achieving across all its services.
The Candidate:
We are looking for an experienced communication professional with strong writing skills who can generate and place good news stories to enhance the reputation of the Council.
Researching, writing and publishing news releases and responding to media enquiries will be at the heart of this role, alongside developing contacts and building relationships with journalists.
You’ll also be creative and able to develop ideas to tell the Council’s story and create engaging content for social media and marketing campaigns.

This role may also be suitable for journalists looking to develop a career in public sector communications.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Handling media enquiries effectively in a busy, newsroom-type environment
- Agreeing statements, responses and quotes with relevant officers, senior managers and members
- Planning and delivering PR campaigns and communications on behalf of the Council
- Creating multimedia content to communicate key messages raising awareness of Walsall and of Walsall Council
