Job Title: Ply Profile Cutter (Aerospace/ Manufacturing)

Location: India Mill, Darwen

Salary: £10.75/hr up to £12.50/hr fully trained. Skills and relevant qualifications.

Job type: Permanent, 4-day week Monday to Thursday 07:15 am to 5:00 pm totalling 37 hours weekly.

Overtime is available from Friday to Sunday at premium rates of pay.

Brookhouse Aerospace is a well-known and respected name in the Aerospace Industry currently in its 71st year, and during this time, the business has seen many positive changes following an MBO in 2021 from Kaman UK.

We offer a range of capabilities, including manufacturing composite components, metallics, sheet metalwork, fabrication, machining and treatments.

We are approved and certified for JOSCAR, AS 9100 and NADCAP certificated and are approved Tier 1 and 2 suppliers to the Aerospace and Defence manufacturers in the UK and internationally, such as Airbus, BAE, MBDA, Rolls Royce, Safran and Spirit.

The role:

We are currently looking for a highly experienced Ply Profile Cutter with at least three years of working experience within an aerospace/manufacturing environment.

You will need to be an approved Ply Profiler/Kitting Technician who is able to undertake all aspects of cutting and preparing aerospace industry kitted components from a wide range of composite, and textile materials in accordance with customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Handling and preparing a wide range of different textiles and materials to produce kit components in accordance with sops and detailed work instructions.
  • Operate necessary equipment (different ply profilers, hand cutting tools, heat sealers) for cutting and packaging of parts and kits.
  • Ensure parts and installation kits are properly identified and labelled. Ensure correct certification paperwork is maintained in line with parts throughout the cutting/kitting process.
  • Perform work in a neat and organised manner while maintaining quality standards.
  • Interpretation of diagrams and drawings to prepare materials for precision cutting and inclusion in finished kits.
  • Work with problem-solving teams across own and other functions to identify areas requiring corrective action.
  • Maintain continuity amongst work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs highlighting in job turnovers.
  • Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Attendance and contribution to the team and departmental meetings and any company requirements.
  • Perform all other reasonable duties assigned by TATS/Ply profiler Supervisor.

The Candidate:

  • You must have the ability to work within a team as well as individually to meet manufacturing/operational objectives set by the Team Leader.
  • Grade C and/or above in GCSE (or equivalent) Maths and English. (Desirable)
  • Demonstrable continuous professional development.
  • Interpretation of diagrams and drawings with demonstrable experience of cutting and preparing aerospace industry kitted components in line
  • Proven experience of working in a busy and fast-moving manufacturing operation.
  • The ability to operate necessary equipment (ply profilers/hand cutting tools/heat sealers for example)
  • Ensure parts and installation kits are identified and labelled correctly with certification paperwork.
  • High level of manual dexterity and detail orientation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and be able to interact with various people across departments.
  • Has a flexible attitude towards the role.
  • Ability to work as part of the team whilst using their own initiative and working with minimum supervision to make autonomous decisions to ensure project deadline compliance.
  • The ability to maintain attention to detail by providing high levels of accuracy.
  • Highly motivated, driven and disciplined with a “can do” attitude.
  • Willingness to listen and learn.
  • Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines.
  • Computer literate and able to use Microsoft Office Applications.

Benefits:

  • Holidays start at 28 days per year (including Bank Holidays) (Based on 4-day week).
  • Overtime rates after basic hours are 1.5 of your basic hourly rate, and Fridays and Saturdays
  • Overtime rates for Sundays are 2.0 of your basic hourly rate.
