The Role
The main responsibility is to ensure the effective and efficient payroll role and proactively contribute to the smooth running of the Accounts Department.
Responsibilities include
Payroll Responsibilities
- Creation and maintenance of staff accounts within the finance system.
- Preparation of maternity schedules/term time adjustments schedules.
- Process pay increases and or changes.
- Process tax code changes/ student loan deductions.
- Enrol members into the TP and Standard Life Pension schemes and manage the auto enrolment process for opt outs.
- Process timesheets.
- Calculate salaries for part time/ pro rata staff.
- Create salary sacrifice calculations.
- Run payroll routine within finance package.
- Review the monthly payroll data with Deputy Bursar.
- Create monthly supplier payment requests for Pensions/Taxation and attachment of earnings.
- Generate and distribute monthly payslips/P45, annual P60.
- Send payroll bacs file via payment software.
- Submission of RTI and MCR reports.
- Submission of Standard Life pension deductions.
- Generate payroll period end.
- Dealing with payroll queries.
- Reconciliation of monthly payroll reports to nominal ledger.
- Complete annual P11D returns.
- Monthly variance analysis actual results to payroll budget.
- Assist Deputy Bursar with termly payroll salary forecasts.
- Assist Deputy Bursar with the production of the annual payroll budget.
General Responsibilities
- Providing cover during staff absence and leave.
- Dealing with mail, opening and sorting.
- Maintaining efficient filing and other information systems.
- Carrying out general office duties, including photocopying and filing

- Must have comprehensive understanding of tax and payroll laws.
- Attention to detail
