DB Cargo is on an ambitious journey to become Europe’s leading rail logistics provider with a long-term plan to shift traffic from roads, protect our climate and grow the economy.
We have an exciting opportunity for a National Maintenance Manager, ideally based from one of our three major depots; Toton (Nottingham), Crewe or Stoke, with travel required nationally.
The National Maintenance Manager will provide DB Cargo UK, safe and consistently reliable locomotives and wagons to enable it to expand the business and fulfil contractual obligations, meet customer demands and deliver the required EBIT, through effective cost control, and asset utilisation. Assist in the production of the 5-year MTP (Mid Term Plan) Strategy, to secure delivery of the business’s long-term fleet requirements.
General Duties/Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the provision of all DB Cargo UK locomotive and wagon fleet requirements enabling DB Cargo UK to operate its core business, ensuring that all locomotives and wagons are maintained in a safe and cost-effective manner and where applicable fulfils the terms of any lease agreements that are in place, whilst protecting owned locomotive and wagon assets.
- Provide 3rd party customers and DB Cargo UK with a cost effective in field maintenance service.
- Mandated to provide all Health and Safety requirements for members of staff ensuring compliance with all related laws concerning Health, Safety and Welfare at their places of work.
- Ensuring all locations are fit for purpose secure and comply with environmental legislation and that all aspects of building and infrastructure are within legal compliance.
- Participate in formulating and then control locomotive and wagon maintenance budget.
- Provide the resources to deliver revenue for 3rd party activity at Toton, Crewe I.E.M.D, Stoke and outstations.
- Assist commercial negotiations with other rail operators in relation to leasing DB Cargo UK locomotive assets.
- Promote best practice maintenance methods throughout the company by adopting continuous improvement techniques, whilst increasing productivity and product quality through designing and implementing programmes that lead to a high level of Employee Engagement.
Experience:
- Demonstrable Safety leadership within an industrial, highly regulated industrial business
- Demonstrable responsibility of effective P&L management
- Minimum 10 years’ experience within a maintenance orientated engineering role.
- Broad based railway engineering experience including locomotive and wagon maintenance, and experience with Breakdown and Recovery operations or directly transferrable skills.
- Direct management of major maintenance facilities experience, including leading a team of Production Managers and fifty plus frontline maintenance staff.
- Direct management of maintenance outstations experience including leading a team of disparate Area Production Managers and fifty plus frontline maintenance staff.
- Background in reliability improvements.
- Experience of working within a team compiling and delivering contract tenders
Qualifications:
- Educated to degree level or currently undertaking a degree.
- Institute of Leadership & Management / Chartered Management Institute level 5 or equivalent.
- NVQ in Business Improvement or equivalent.
- Achieved a formal Apprenticeship or equivalent Vocational qualification in engineering and maintenance.
- Holds IOSH qualification or equivalent.
