About the role:

The Management Accountant is a hands on post responsible for overseeing the smooth day do day operational management of the Finance Department under the direction of the Head of Finance. The post holder will be involved in all aspects of the charity from day to day financial management, planning and reporting, to significant projects including developing any new finance systems and implementing any new financial arrangements.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Accounting:

  • Ensure financial ledgers are maintained on a daily basis.
  • Ensure reconciliation of control accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Ensure integrity of the Rent Ledger and Sales Ledgers with regard to residents details.
  • Ensure the rent accounting system is maintained on a timely basis; set up new contributions for residents on the Rent Ledger in time for the commencement of each new financial year.
  • Calculate Care fees and issue invoices to residents.
  • Notify appropriate Local Authorities of new fees and contributions prior to the commencement of the new financial year.
  • Prepare lead investment schedule for the sale and purchase of shares and dividends for the Trust and prepare dividend receipts schedule on a monthly basis.
  • Ensure proper accounting of all monies handled including rents, petty cash, and residents’ funds.
  • Keep appropriate records of the purchase and sale of shares of the investment portfolios

Fixed Assets:

  • Maintain Fixed Assets Register by asset class and component by:-
  • Coding capital invoices to the appropriate balance sheet accounts.
  • Ensuring compliance with Company policy with regard to component accounting.
  • Applying correct rate of depreciation to each separate asset class.
  • Accounting for disposal of assets.
  • Reconciling Fixed Assets Register with the respective control accounts in the Sage financial ledgers.
  • Accounting treatment of Social Housing Grant to the appropriate asset class and component.

Management Accounts

  • Prepare the investment schedule.
  • Prepare quarterly Managements Accounts, including Income & Expenditure accounts, Balance Sheets and Fixed Assets, comparing actuals with budgets, forecasts, statistics and bank balances.

Budgeting:

  • Assist Head of Finance in preparing the annual budgets for the Trust.
  • Monitor actual income and expenditure (including revenue and capital) against budget and report to budget holders quarterly throughout the financial year.

Statutory Accounts

  • Assist Head of Finance in preparing the statutory accounts for the Trust.
  • Address any issues raised by the auditors as necessitating action.

Treasury Management

  • Ensure all monies received including rents and grants are banked immediately and credited to the correct bank account.
  • Ensure any banking transactions are operated in a secure manner through the Internet.

Staff Management

  • Working with the Head of Finance to appoint, manage, coach and train staff within the Finance Team.
  • Provide advice to managers in accordance with the Standing Orders and Financial Regulations (SOFR).

Other Duties:

  • Provide debtor monthly reports for credit control purposes to the Independent Living Officer.
  • Liaise with staff and residents as necessary to carry out duties and responsibilities.
  • Comply with financial standing orders and procedures.
  • Undertake any other duties reasonably requested by the Head of Finance.
