Job Title: Maintenance Operative – Flexible Hours
Location: Newquay
Salary: £9.21 per hour (£11,494 per annum FTE)
Job Type: Part -time, Temporary, Contract (until September – 5 months)
We are looking for a Maintenance Operative to join our team at Newquay.
Join the team at the Blue Planet Aquarium where we offer visitors the chance to experience a huge collection of fish, including one of Europe’s largest collection of sharks in a huge 3.8 million litre tank with one of the longest underwater viewing tunnels in the world!
Job Description
Assist the General Manager in ensuring that the attraction is presented to the highest standards, in good working order and is safe and clean for staff and customers, operating with awareness of the environment and conservation.
Duties/ Responsibilities
- Organise and manage job priorities in conjunction with the General Manager
- Ensure that plant rooms and maintenance store room are in good order.
- Liaise and assist colleagues and other departments when required.
- Light bulb runs to be completed every morning of shift prior to opening where possible (full training given)
- Toilet and wash facilities to be inspected for operation every morning of shift – completed before opening where possible
- Exterior of Blue Reef Building to be kept free of graffiti and sea gull mess.
- Remove excess algae from the building footprint and quarantine area.
- Separate waste, where possible for recycling purposes.
- To drive company van when required to collect maintenance materials from suppliers. (Full manual driving licence required).
- To assist in the receipt of deliveries where appropriate.
- To liaise and assist Zoological department with maintenance issues with the exception of exhibits/displays unless agreed with General Manager prior to carrying out the task
- Complete risk assessments as the business requires
- Ensure compliance with Fire safety regulations and take corrective action when required.
Key Requirements
- Full manual driving license
- Demonstrate good communication skills
- Must take a hands on approach to work
- Capable of working efficiently under pressure
- Strong problem-solving skills with a can-do attitude
- Availability to work in shifts including weekends
