Job Title: Maintenance Operative – Electrician
Location: Harrogate
Salary: £24,313 – £26,317 per annum
Job type: Full time, Permanent (37 hours per week)

The Council’s property services team are looking for an Electrician to work in their maintenance team providing reactive maintenance across their portfolio.
The Role:
You will need to be able to demonstrate that you can undertake an Electrical role within a maintenance team to a high standard and should have a core skill in domestic Electrical installations.
You will need to have the highest levels of customer care and have a cheerful and positive disposition.
Job Duties:
Maintenance and repair works:
- Carrying out of any work described on the official works order within the timescales and budget constraints provided, taking into account safe working practices and complying with Council’s agreed standards / service specifications
- Inspection of installations
- Testing of installations and diagnosing faults
- Repair of installations including extractor fans and estate lighting
- Testing maintenance / repair of appliances
- Rewire electrical installations
- Test installations and diagnose faults in conjunction with an understanding of schematic drawings, plans, layouts and fault-finding manuals, and report findings
- Rewire domestic installations
Reasonable allied duties:
- Liaises and assists all Property Services staff to ensure the efficient and effective co-ordination of all maintenance works
- Recording and monitoring of supplied equipment as necessary
- All provisions in regard to H&S
- Occasional supervision of labourer
- Be part of the “out of hours” emergency call out rota
Vehicle use and maintenance:
- Carry out routine safety checks as required
- Ensure vehicle is well maintained from both a mechanical perspective as well as a presentational one
- Drive the vehicle; maximise fuel economy, minimise wear and tear and provide safe regard to other road users
Multi skill agreement
- It is recognised that multi-skilled operatives provide more flexibility in delivery of a reactive service and therefore Council encourages tradesmen with a core skill to train and become competent in other skill areas
Key Requirements:
Essential
- Electrical maintenance operations in an occupied domestic setting including testing, certification and fault rectification
- Current 17th edition IEE Wiring Regulations qualification
- City & Guilds level (1) & (2) 2330
- City & Guilds level (3) 2391 – Testing and inspection
- An understanding of the requirements of Health & Safety on site
- A positive disposition and commitment to team work
- Committed to presenting a positive image of the Council
- High levels of customer care suitable for work in tenant’s homes
- Ability to work efficiently to complete minimum daily workloads as prescribed to meet business demand. A commitment to the principles of continuous improvement
- Able to plan and record own work load and material use
- Able to complete domestic electrical maintenance operations to a high standard
- Able to communicate efficiently and courteously at appropriate levels
- Must provide all required hand tools and cordless drill / driver and maintain in good working order
- Able to provide an out of hours emergency electrical service on a rota basis
- Full driving licence
Desirable
- CSCS – Blue card or above, NVQ Level 3 or SVQ Level 3. Worked in a Social Housing environment. Awareness of construction related legislation and practices
- Multi-skilled operative with experience of associated plastering, tiling, brickwork and joinery
