About the role:

As part of the LKAB UK Supply Chain team, the Transport Manager will be responsible for all operational and strategic aspects of domestic road transport, including road tankers, tippers, palletised goods, and third-party warehousing and stevedoring operations. This role plays a key part in ensuring efficient, cost-effective, and timely transportation solutions that align with LKAB’s strategic objectives. The Transport Manager will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to optimise transport logistics, uphold compliance, and maintain high standards of safety, sustainability, and operational efficiency.

About the team

The Logistics Manager will be part of the Supply Chain and Purchasing Department, reporting to the Head of Supply Chain Operations. The team consists of three Raw Material Managers and a Category Management team of two. This role does not have any direct reports.

Full Time Responsibilities & Key work tasks

  • End-to-end responsibility for domestic road transport operations, ensuring timely and cost-efficient delivery of goods.
  • Active category management within the transportation category – analyse, identify, control and manage suppliers and spend.
  • Identify the right supplier portfolio needed for transport categories
  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and safety standards related to road transport operations.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align logistics operations with broader supply chain strategies.
  • Manage logistics budgets, track KPI performance, and generate reports on transport operations.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings, efficiency improvements, and enhanced customer service within the transport function.
  • Implement and improve mechanisms to measure and enhance transport service satisfaction.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with third-party logistics and warehousing providers, managing contracts, service agreements, and performance.
  • Resolve operational challenges and manage claims, working closely with drivers, suppliers, and other key stakeholders to ensure smooth transport operations

Characteristics and skills requirements

  • Minimum of 5-7 years related field experience in logistics management, with a strong emphasis on road transport operations.
  • Knowledge about regulatory requirements, road transport legislation, and compliance standards.
  • Experience in managing third-party logistics providers, contracts, and supplier relationships.
  • Strong negotiation skills, particularly in contract and pricing discussions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving, with the ability to handle operational challenges effectively.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to track KPIs and drive performance improvements.
  • Full UK driving licence required.
