Job Title: Local Taxation Assistant Team Leader

Salary: £24,313 – £26,317 per annum

The Role:
If you feel you are ready to take the first step into a management position, then the above role could be for you. Come and join their local taxation team ensuring Council Tax and Business Rates are properly managed and collected within the Harrogate District. The successful applicant will have good knowledge of the rules around local taxes and be ready to take on staff management responsibilities to both support the team and the Local Taxation Team Leader in delivering the service.
Helping customers with complex enquiries escalated by the team and working as part of the team, to ensure the smooth running of the service, you will have excellent communication skills and be highly motivated. You will hold or commit to studying for a Full or Technical NVQ qualification with IRRV (or equivalent), have experience of working with a revenues database and Microsoft products.
Job Duties:
- To support the management and co-ordination of the Local Taxation team on a day to day basis to basis
- To deal with complex customer enquiries escalated by local taxation officers and work as part of the local taxation team to manage the smooth running of the service and associated contacts
- To contribute to the strategic planning of the Revenues function within the Council
- Manage processes and procedures to ensure robust account management.
- Team management
- Assist officers in complex local taxation account administration
- Liaise with the Valuation Office Agency to manage changes and updates
The Candidate:
Essential
- Maths & English GCSE (Grade A to C) or equivalent
- Have Full or Technician or NVQ Qualification with IRRV
- Local Taxation Legislation
- Good organisational and planning skills
- Ability to lead a team through change
- Ability to train and coach new and existing members of staff
- Tenacious and hardworking
- Ability to manage own workload
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong negotiating skills
- Ability to manage and motivate a team
- Ability to think and make decisions in a pressured environment
- Ability to present cases and speak in front of an audience
- Flexible approach to work and willing to work occasionally outside office hours
Desirable
- Knowledge of and ability to understand and interpret Council Tax and NDR legislation
- Experience of Supervision
