Job Role:
We’re looking for a talented Operations Engineer with a good mix of both C# development and systems administration skills to join our specialist law firm. You’ll be working on our class-leading case management application and client web portal, whilst also maintaining the servers and systems that host the application, providing application and desktop support to the end users and ensuring the confidentiality, integrity and availability of systems and data.
The ideal candidate would be equally happy either getting knee-deep into code, spending time building a new server, introducing a new test framework, or working with a member of staff to identify and resolve a knotty technical issue in one of our applications that is affecting their work. You’ll be able to work independently within a loose framework set by the IT Director and the senior management team and will have a ‘whatever it takes’ attitude towards solving problems.
You’ll be working in our modern and spacious office just outside Guildford very close to the River Wey, with ample parking and a short bus ride from Guildford Station.
Key Objectives:
- Supporting the business by identifying and resolving any operational problems
- Assist all departments in fulfilling their respective annual plans and objectives by providing a stable, modern and flexible IT and network infrastructure capable of supporting growth within the business
- Delivering improvements and enhancements to the in-house case management system and associated client intranet web portal as well as ensuring any issues reported are identified and resolved
- Ensuring the confidentiality, integrity and assurance of systems and data
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain our core Lovsys.NET case management application (C#, Windows Forms)
- Develop and maintain our client extranet (ASP.NET) and spearhead the modernisation of the web platform
- Champion the introduction of modern development processes such as unit testing, TDD and CI/CD
- Manage and maintain the systems behind our in-house case management and client extranet systems (Windows Server 2012 R2/2016 on Hyper-V, SQL Server) as well as other standard IT platforms (Office 2016, Windows 10, Exchange 2013)
- Assist business stakeholders and the management team in planning future development to ensure the needs of clients (both internal and external) are met
- Ensure the confidentiality, integrity and assurance of data by providing robust backup, disaster recovery and business continuity processes and ensuring robust cyber security protections are in place throughout the business
- Provide a basic level of IT support to end-users within the Lovetts office
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential
- Strong C# skills, ideally with Windows Forms applications
- Experience of ASP.NET web development a bonus
- Good knowledge of Windows Server administration, including familiarity with Hyper-V virtualisation
- Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and working knowledge of T-SQL
- Ability to easily switch between different tasks and manage multiple projects at once
- Excited about being challenged every day
Bonus points for:
- Experience of Avaya IP Office phone systems
- Experience working in a small business or legal environment
- Familiarity with modern web development platforms or frameworks such as Python, Node.js or similar
- Experience introducing and managing CI/CD for a Microsoft tech stack
- Experience with at least one server or infrastructure management tool such as Nagios, OpManager, Cacti or similar
